Has anyone exceeded the maximum carbonation level in a Grolsch bottle and had it explode ? Also - will the bottle explode or will the lid open ?
Ive carbed to 3.2 volumes and had no problems but want to carb my next Dubbel at 4 volumes.

yeah what he said!

I believe there is a way to subscribe to a thread without posting, it eludes me. I wanted to make sure I could read feedback for this one.

IMO that metal is holding that stopper down as well as a bottle cap, and I have had a few, bottled with caps. go off (not paying attention to what I was doing).

I've helped my buddy bottle some beer in the grolsch bottles and it caused bombs. The bottles exploded, he ended up with about 40 or so extra swingtop mechanisms. :( No idea how to measure the carbonation level, but we figure we bottled too early....Oops.

Run some tests and let us know how much CO2 it takes to blow a Grolsch bottle up.

Outside, baking soda + vinegar, & RUN!

It's more likely that the bottle will explode than the cap blow off because of the way it is held on so tightly. It's an ingenious design.

Good idea. Maybe I'll win the 2010 Darwin AWARD ! :D
Im going to test when I bottle next using coopers tabs. AFAIK they're sucrose/corn suger 50/50 - correct ?
Im going to add from one to four tabs per bottle and then put the bottles in a box to contain the mess.
Can anyone think of anything else ?

Try Mentos and Diet Coke while you are at it, video the results and post. Now that would be a test to see which is stronger; the glass or the metal strap....:rockin:

Like i said in my original post.....the glass will break. The metal swingtop is stronger...trust me ;) Have fun with your testing though.
