Good luck buddy! I've done it once- just got the keg, rebuilt it- and go figure the in/out labels are worn down, the post took 11/16 instead of 7/8 socket, and the post wasn't notched. DOH! Took a little muscle but actually popped off in about a minute of cursing...

Prying carefully with a nail puller while holding the locking ring up worked for me. I use colored o-rings for the gas plugs and black for beer these days.

I just used good ole fashioned force. It took a bit and I gave my keg a good cussing out, but it came off.

You can do this. You just have to hook up the co2 line through the black connector. We use this method to fill kegs from the bottom when filtering.
