Hello, all!

I've been bitten by the home brewing bug, and decided that the Mr. Beer system just wasn't quite going to hack it for me anymore.

My day job makes home-brewing a pretty logical hobby - I work for a rather large food company which among other things keeps your kids eating their Easy Mac, sends people around the country in hot-dog shaped vehicles, makes "milk's favorite cookie", a key non-alcoholic component of Jell-O shots, and makes cheese. Yep, that company. I'm a manufacturing manager at one of that company's large cheese plants.

How large?

Well, let's just say that some days we can consume in excess of 2 million pounds of milk. (that's about 15,200 Sankey kegs!)

Modern dairy plants look a lot like modern mega-breweries. Everything is stainless steel. Everything uses tri-clamp fittings. Nearly everything is clean-in-place. We're fanatic about sanitation. So, as I get started on building a serious home brewing system, I'm trying to learn from what works at my plant, even though I don't have the same budget at home. Hopefully I can make a nice beer when it's all said and done, and share clever things I've figured out to make brew days simple and sanitary.

Welcome from down by Kenosha.
Go check out Northern Brewer in West Allis. :mug"

Been there, done that, got the credit card bill to hide from SWMBO until my bonus check comes in a few weeks. :D

I actually live over by Madison, so my closest option is Brew n Grow on the east side or Wine and Hop near the UW campus. Northern seems to have better grain prices. Fortunately, I go to our company offices down in Chicagoland every month or so, and NB is only about 3 minutes off the expressway home. :mug:

Welcome! I have cheezeheads in my family tree... all over WI. I know exactly what you mean about dairy plants... I worked at a huge icecream plant... we called it Perrydice... and made steam for a milk plant too. Cheeers... :mug:

I'm an almost constant customer at that Brew n Grow (I work very close to it). Welcome to the fun!
