Hey Everyone,

My name is John, and Im a 29 year old computer consultant. I live in Sunny So Cal, and it is hot hot hot at the moment. I live alone with my son Bryan who is 4 1/2. I started home brewing when I was 19 years old. Yeah I know I was too young to legally drink, but I started drinking when I was 16...How many here didnt?

My interest got sparked when I spotted a book on my first roomates bookshelf. It was a small, decently written book about brewing your own beer. I read it over, and got really interested in giving it a go. My roomate hadnt ever tried it, so it sounded like a fun house project. At the time I lived in Lomita, and there was a local brew supply store about 3 blocks from my house. Had that place not have existed, I probably wouldnt be on these forums today. That shop later shut down, and became a lingerie store. Now the 3 closest places are in Culver City, Long Beach, and Riverside. (If anyone knows of other closer places, please feel free to send me a message).

My first beer was a "Fat Tire" clone. Just like the real thing, it was very hoppy, but a great first brew. My second was a Guiness clone. I really wish I had that recipe, because that was the best beer I ever had in my entire life. Before moving out of that house we did a few other beers, and some hard ciders. Everything always turned out good.

Later on in life I met my ex wife. Over the 8 years we lived together I brewed a few times on and off. At some point I made my worste beer ever. I tried to make a pumpkin ale that turned out tasting like a coors light with pumpkin flavoring.

Now to modern times. I have been divorced for about a year, and my father passed away a couple of months ago. I got a pretty large inheritance, and decided that Id love to get back into brewing again. Who knows, maybe some day I will own my own micro brewery. I already have 6 years of experience running my own business, so you never know.

Anyways, I made the trek out to More Beer in Riverside. I picked up a full 2 keg rig, 10 gallon brew pot, camp stove, etc etc. I basically bought all the equiptment that I knew would last pretty much forever unless I later decide to go even bigger. I have all the parts to build my Sanyo 4912 Kegerator, which I will do over this weekend.

So now 10 years after my first brew I find myself on this awesome forum. Im a computer consultant, so I love this kind of stuff. Im looking forward to swapping some great brew stories with you all.

Hi John,

Welcome to the forums! Tons of great people and info here.

I'm not sure where you are, but if woodland hills is closer to you than the other shops there is the home beer wine cheese shop: http://www.homebeerwinecheese.com/

That is also the home to the Maltose Falcons (http://www.maltosefalcons.com/) homebrew club.

Have a blast brewing and building the kegerator this weekend.

Thank you so much. I live in Torrance. So many people from the valley are unfarmiliar with it (I have tons of clients in the valley), so its right next door to Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Gardena, Palos Verdes, etc. Woodland Hills is not to far from me, especially when Im working out in the valley. Thats at least 1-2 times a week. I will check them out next time Im out that way.

Good to see you here, John!

I'm around Moreno Valley and I'm a semi-regular at the MoreBeer shop. Good guys over there. Welcome aboard, this definitely IS an awesome forum....I've looked at them all...cheers:mug:

Hey what up John, I am also new to these forums (and new to brewing as well) and am live in So Cal as well. I go to Stein Fillers in Long Beach
