Hello Everyone!
I am very glad I found this site. I am brand new to brewing and plan on my first attempt this upcoming weekend.
I have always had a love for beer and love trying new ones. I've always wanted to try brewing but was recently motivated. I had planned on planting hops in my garden for reasons other than brewing and thought why not brew? I've since backed off on planting them until I have more experience and know what I want to grow. So here we are!
I'm almost done reading the book "How to Brew" (by John Palmer) as it came highly recommended by two brewing friends of mine(I live in WI, everyone has at least one friend that brews) . I am already amazed at what this book has taught me about beer and I haven't even made my first wort yet. I know that if this is like anything else, I will never be done tweaking and experimenting. I'm also excited to offer home brews to go a long with my some of my other home made food- cooking is another avid hobby of mine.
I plan to start with a Malt Extract recipe kit. I was curious if anyone had any suggestions. I was planning on going to our local brew store, but maybe someone reading this will have a great suggestion. I am normally a lager guy, but I figured starting with an ale may be a bit easier. Thoughts?
While I have very little knowledge, I know what good beer tastes like and that's all that matters to me! At least for now. Thanks for your advice and someday I will hopefully be able to pay it forward with new members!
