Hi all , just wanted to introduce myself as a brewing virgin....
as of right now my first batch is sitting in a dark closet .. can any one give me some info on a wort chiller and possibly a link to diffrent hop? so far this bactch i used 1 oz of saaz for the bitter and .50 oz at 10 min left and .50 oz at 5 minutes left of U.S. aroma hop .... after steeping my grain , i used what was known as a light powder malt?? and i beleieve there was 2x 6 lb bags??
as well i added .25 oz of the us hop int he fermenter as (dry hopping)..
any body ever done a recipe similar to this?? how were your results??
i was thinking of fermenting for 10 days instead of 7 , as well i have alot of questions about bottling , and the sugar/carbination process, can you guys give me some pointers from here ? possibly some recipe's?
i am goignt o try to bottle this on its 10th day and i would like to breew another batch that night ..
thanks guys and happy brewing!!!:mug:

Welcome :)
You should be able to find an immersion chiller at your LHBS, or any number of online outlets, or you could make one yourself with copper tubing and some fittings. Should be able to find the plans online.

I Have Read Hundreds Of Post And Threads On Here And Got Lots Of Replies To My Common Questions ..
And I Also Have An Idea For Keeping My Fermenting Temps At An Even Keel .. I Have Read About Several Guys Making A Ox Of Thin Plywood And Insulating It With Styrofoam From The Lhs .. I Think I Am Going To Do This Idea First , Since My Brewing Takes Place In A Closet In Fl .. It Is Very Hard To Get A Cooler Temp As Witht The Guys Up North With Basements , Cellars Etc..
So We Will Se Eoif This Gets Me Where I Need To Be ..
And I Am Goign To Use The 1-2-3 Method And Let It Sit In Bottles For About 4-10 Weeks And See What Happens There , Maybe In The Secondary For 2-5 Weeks To Let It Clear , Meanwhile I Will Start A Second Batch Friday Night Of A Nice Crisp Light Beer Of My Own Recipe ,

Hey Punky,

Have you read John Palmer's How To Brew? It's totally free and available online, and has some great recipes in it as well as a clear how-to.

The 1-2-3 method has its champions, but I think you'll find that most of the experienced folks on this forum tend to promote instead just a long primary (3-4 weeks) and then straight to bottle/keg rather than following a strict 1-2-3 plan.

As you'll be told many times, Yeast have no idea that it's been a week and therefore they need to back off so you can transfer to secondary. They're gonna do what they want, no matter the timeframe!

Welcome from a fellow Floridian. I see your in Brandon. Do you have a local home brew shop in your area?

Another South Hillsborough Brewer here. While there are no homebrew stores in Brandon there is a new one that recently opened up in Tampa off of Busch blvd. They seem to be pretty well anchored as they are a grain distrubutor for most of the southeast. So we don't have to worry about them going away anytime soon. They have pretty much all the malt you could ask for, plenty of hops and carry the entire wyeast, whitelabs, and some dry (not really sure of brands, never use dry myself) yeasts. I will probably head over later this week to pick up ingredients for my next batch and brew sometime over the weekend. Sunday maybe..... If your interested in All-grain c'mon by and I can show you.
