Great HOP pricing going on!

I got 2009 leaf hops from them, Centennial and Cascades. I repackaged them yesterday, and forgot to mark the AA on the new packages. Unfortunately, the original packaging went out this morning in the trash.

Can anyone that got 2009 leaf hops tell me what their alpha acids were on Centennial and Cascade? I think mine was 10.5 and 7, but I really don't remember...

I bought 8lbs of hops from them about a week or 2 before the sale, wrote them an email asking if they do any sort of price adjustments. Not really expecting anything but figured would hurt to try.

Fast forward a couple of week and what do I find? 5lbs of free hops at my doorstep! I will DEFINITELY be doing business with them again in the future. :rockin:

A question for the vetrans...
I just got a notice that I have 8lbs of hop pellets delivered sitting on my front porch.

My original plan was to split it up right away and put it in the freezer. My question is: Since I won't be using all the varieties right away, am I better off leaving them in the original packaging in the freezer and dividing after I open for the first time or should I go ahead and divide them now?

I want to split my 5 lbs into jars and this may be the best option right now. No luck on craigslist or searching for a deal.

it's the one i used to seal all mine. is my dads, but i bought my own (older model from garage sale) after i packaged all my hops.

If you have a vacuum sealer, just do which ever is more convenient for you.

If you do not have a vacuum sealer, leaving them in their current package is you best bet (while you go get a sealer ).

I have a brand spankin new sealer I bought just for this. (it will get plenty of use elsewhere around the house/kitchen). I was all pumped and ready to fire it up, then started thinking about keeping everything as fresh as possible for as long as possible.

My concern was opening an original bag after it has been in the freezer for a few weeks and finding a solid 1lb pellet.

So is the consensus that I shouldn't have any problems separating after they have been in the freezer??

It will be a 1 lb pellet. But not a solid one. With some pressure it break up easily into the original pellets.

Nah, it'll be fine. The small pellets come apart, no problem.

Ordered a lb each of Cascade, Amarillo, Williamette, Saaz, and Crystal. Great prices. From order to receiving the hops, it looks like it'll be about 2 weeks. I'm located on the opposite end of the country. Well worth the wait. Shipping wasn't that bad either. Was under $11 bucks...so I still came out way ahead than if I ordered them by the ounce anywhere else. Wouldn't have ever known about the sale if I hadn't read it here. Thanks everyone!

I had to cut the bags open and break them apart with a rolling pin. Don't worry, it wasn't hard.

Just whack the bags with a rolling pin before opening them. much less messy.

I tried that. The vacuum seal on the bag was too good and they would not break up until the bag was cut. Either way it wasn't messy. The only messy part of packaging my hops was handling the magnum hops; they are sticky aren't they.

I ordered 8 pounds for a friend and myself on Monday and received an e-mail today from UPS that they have received the electronic shipment information from Hops Direct. Awesome turnaround time considering how busy they must be. Now it's just a quick 200 mile road trip to my freezer.:rockin: I think I can already smell them.

I got my 2# almost 2 weeks from the order date, they arrived two days ago. As I was placing them in the freezer, I realized I need to order more to take advantage of the price but also the shipping. I ran inside and immediately ordered four more pounds...I think there was a pool of drool at my feet after I submitted the order, lol!

With the activity on this thread, I wonder how much business they are seeing from HBT referrals?

It sounds like freezing the 1lb bags of pellets is fine but what about whole hops? I would think they would be a lot more difficult to split up after freezing. I don't want to be dealing with an 18oz Cascade hopcicle when I go to brew my next batch!

I got my 4 lbs of whole hops a few days ago. They took up a lot more space in the freezer than I thought.

the whole hop bags do take up a lot of space. if you seal them wiht a foodsaver you end up with more space I found. they take up less space that way. or maybe I'm trying to convince myself.

I saw that ebay listing and was skeptical (2009 hops while HopsDirect is selling 2008?). I had emailed him to inquire about them and days had passed before he responded, and in the interim I ordered from HopsDirect. Shortly after I did, he replied to my email and seemed straight up... but there was a lag in his receiving my questions.

Yeah, I heard about the ebay guy on a local mailing list, but I'm confused as to how he got pelletized hops so early. According to ebay history he started selling them on Sept 30, and Puterbaugh Farms hasn't even started selling their 2009 crop for pellets yet. Puterbaugh says their harvest usually takes all of September and then they fire up the pelletization machine and pellets become available first or second week of October. Anyway, I hope Puterbaugh starts selling pellets soon!
