Need some help from the veterans out there. I just finished brewing my second attempt at home beer and so far so good. What I was wondering is the kit I was using said that my starting gravity should be 1.05 and my reading is 1.04. Is this a huge difference? Is my beer pop? Thanks for helping a true newbie.:mug:

Did you adjust your reading based on the temp of the wort? Either that or you had more water than recipe called for? Usually when you're doing extract your gravity should be pretty close unless the above two variables have a play in it.

If it really is 1.040 and you get down to 1.008 after ferment you'd be at about 4.2% abv so still in the macro beer range.
