I brewed my first batch ( an Irish Red from extract ) on September 29th. The original gravity after I added water to get the batch to 5 gallons in the fermenter but before I pitched the yeast was 1.040, I think. I took the reading after I aerated so it was tuff to get a true number with all the foam but I think I was close. So today October 8 I open my fermenter to take my first reading and its showing 1.014. My question is........is that it ? will the FG drop any more as the next 3 weeks of fermentation go on ? It seems to me that that reading is less than 3% ABV, not good !! Otherwise the beer looks and smells great so far. I would appreciate anyone and all wisdom on this LATEST dilemma as I begin my new passion !!
