I did a bunch of searching but there isn't much on this spice. Seems that it is commonly used in Wits, Pale and Summer Ales, anything else in the "light" beer category.

But what about a heavy beer like a stout? I got an experimental Imperial Stout coming up for one of my next brews and was wondering if Grains of Paradise could be used at all.

Do you think you could even detect the flavour it should impart in such a heavy beer? Or would it just be undetectable and better left to the lighter beers?

Never discount the overall effect of an ingredient on "Depth and complexity"... that is to say that just because it isn't the forward flavor, doesn't mean it isn't worth adding.

Even if it gave a subtle flavour to the final product I would consider it a good use of ingredients.
