Here's what I have in primary:

5 Gallons:

17# 2 Row US
1.5 # flaked rye
.75# black patent
.75# Choc Malt
10 oz Roasted Barley
1.5 oz Magnum @ 60
.5 oz Centennial @ 15
.5 oz Magnum @ 15
1 oz Chinook @ 15
1 oz Centennial @ 5

Pitched with 2 1.5 liter starters of WLP 001

I lost some barley to a spill in my car due to an accident in front of me.

Wound up with an OG of 1088 instead of the 1109 I wanted due mostly to the loss of grain I think.

It's been in primary for 7 days now and it's still bubbling at 1045 to 1050 ish.

I'm assuming I should RDWHAHB except we drank all my home brew at a crayfish boil yesterday.:mug:

the term yeti is not one I associated with beer before just now. now I want crayfish.

your beer will be fine. a few gravity points won't hurt too much.

Some RISs seem to do that. I brewed one last spring that dropped from 1.030 to 1.025 between weeks 4-8. Talk about taking a while. Turned out great, though. Lots of delicious, roasty flavor, but still dangerously drinkable despite its 1.025 FG.

Hey I dunno if this matters, but I got a yeti clone kit, (extract) from AHS and the OG for it is 1.090.

My last IIPA and gigantic stout have been slow fermenters as well. It sucks because my pipeline is running out and I'm impatient!

I hear ya man I've got a delirium tremens clone and a double bastard clone both at less than 30 days right now. It's killing me cause I wanna do this yeti kit and I don't really have that much space to brew or enough buckets.

I've seen recipes out there anywhere from 1085 up to 1120 so 1090 should do nicely. Be sure to make a big starter. I did two 1.5 liter starters and it's still taking forever.

What if I pitch a vial of white labs into 4 pints of water and a cup of dme and leave it out for about 3 days? I've only tried making a starter twice and both were 2 liters water, 1/2 cup dme and a vial of white labs left 24 hours.

I'm no expert on making starters. This was the first one I've done. I actually used LME (I forget how much) boiled in 1.5 liters of water. I poured the whole mix into a two liter coke bottle and pitched into that. I let that go for three days before I crashed it in the fridge. Meanwhile, I figured on the day before brew-day that would still be under-pitching so I made another starter that afternoon with the same process. The first starter I poured off the wort and pitched the slurry. The second I pitched the whole thing. It's not the standard way of doing things but it seemed to work.

The good news is the beer finally stabilized after three weeks at 1021. It also tastes great--a little like a bitter hot cocoa. I'm going to take another reading today and bottle if it's still stable.

Then I get to wait for at least four weeks I bet before it's ready to drink. That's going to be hard.

Man I took a brewer's best russian imperial stout kit and added 3.3lbs lme, steeped some extra grains added 1oz of hops during the boil and dry hopped it w/ another oz. OG was like 1.100, FG came to somewhere around 1.028. It's been a few weeks and I'm not even sure it's carbing up. I tried one and it had almost no fizz. I'm guessing I'll have to wait some time for it to all come together.

White labs California ale. I'm worried cause it doesn't seem to be carbonated after a few weeks in bottles.

Not to thread-jack, but I just wanted to say that I tried another one of those and it's started to carb up nicely.

Also, I made a starter for the AHS yeti kit. 2 pints water, 1/2 cup dme and a vial of white labs in a growler. Gonna brew that yeti tonight. Wish me luck dude! This is batch #10!

I'd love hear how long it takes for your's to finish.

According to White Labs site WLP001 attenuates between 73 and 80 percent. 1028 is just at the low end of the scale. I'm glad to hear it's carbing up nice finally.

I wish I had never learned to love these big beers. Patience is not one of my strong suits.:D

Man I racked the AHS yeti clone to the carboy last night. Didn't take a gravity reading. I'll probably give it another week then bottle it. Can't wait. My other two buckets have a stone ruination clone and a dogfish head indian brown ale clone. Got all the ingredients for the rouge double dead guy. After that, 90 minute IPA.

Starters for roasty beers seem like a lot of work. I pitched 2 packets of rehydrated US-05 and it chewed right through my AHS kit inside of 6 days or so. I think with these big beers, US-05 is tough to beat, or even Nottingham if kept under 70. Hell of a beer though, good luck to all with their versions...mine has been bulk aging in a secondary for 2 months, I started kegging recently, and want to bottle this batch, but can't seem to drag myself to the bottling bucket.

i did a beefed up yeti clone (OG 1.12) and pitched it on top of a yeast cake of WLP001. first time i had ever done that, WOW! that thing took off like a rocket and was down to 1.030 on less than 3 days. room temp was about 67. surprisingly there was minimal "off" flavors from the yeast. i was also surprised that it stayed in the bucket.

i started with the BYO recipe.

My AHS yeti kit is now carbed and delicious. Still be a bit before I think it's at it's peak, but for now I'll give it 5 stars on coming out just like the actual yeti. Excellent work AHS!!!
