Good Bukowski reads?

Looking for a new novel. Any Bukowski fans here? I've never read any of this books, he has 55, any suggestions on his best works?

Post Office, Factotum, Hollywood, and Women were all great reads I thought. They are novels. Most of the others are short stories and poetry all lumped together. Those are good too. Not your typical kind of poetry, very quick and easy to wrap your head around.

Ham on Rye is pretty enjoyable, and you really can't go wrong with any of the poetry if you're looking for something like that

What is considered Bukowski's masterpiece by most?

I've never thought of them in that way. I prefer the earlier works. They are a bit rougher, bumming around getting in fights in different cities. I guess the later ones have a bit of that too. Not sure that I've ever heard anyone mention "masterpiece" regarding his stuff.

I'd say read Post Office. You'll probably want to read more after that.

I agree with the aforementioned posts. I don't know if he really has a masterpiece per se. One that you might check out is Pulp. It's his take on the dime pulp mickey spillane novels. Also his short stories are fun to read especially with a homebrew in hand since he writes predominantly about drinking and betting on the horses. I find that his short stories seem to blur together after reading a bunch of them.

Definately give him a go though. Nobody should go through life without reading at least one Bukowski story!

As I remeber Post Office also has one of the greatest openning passages of any book ever.
