I am new to brewing, but already totally obsessed. I love listening to podcasts, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a good brewing podcast. I am a huge fan of Stuff You Should Know and Freakonomics, if that helps with any suggestions. Thanks all.

Check out the following podcasts: Basic Brewing Radio, BeerSmith.com, The Brewing Network - Brew Strong & The Brewing Netwok - The Jamil Show. All good homebrewing oriented podcasts. For more commercial brewer interviews, craft industry topics, general entertainment - check out The Brewing Network Sunday Show

When I was starting out, I found the Brewing Network Jamil SHow to be EXTREMELY helpful. They went through how to brew all the styles in the BJCP guideline (one at a time). Each episode is filled with info and taken all together, these episodes probably made me the incredibly awesome brewer that I am today :)

Here's the link to the shows - http://thebrewingnetwork.com/shows/The-Jamil-Show - you should find your way to the beginning episodes first...once they finished with all the styles, they've moved on to cloning commercial beers (which is also quite educational, though I have found them less so lately)

BrewingTV episodes as well. Everything I know about brewing came from HBT and BTV.

I listen to a bunch of homebrewing podcasts as I have a pretty long commute to work. Here are the ones I listen to in no particular order:

  • The BN: Brew Strong - Very informative, lots of good topics from basic to more advanced.
  • The BN: The Jamil Show / Can You Brew It - Great for learning about beer styles usually with some tidbits of information. Sometimes a little wordy in the beginning of the show, but that's what the fast forward button is for.
  • Basic Brewing Radio/Video - Has covered a lot of different topics over the years, great guests, and James Spencer does a great job presenting the material.
  • BeerSmith podcast - Brad Smith, the creator of the beersmith brewing software's podcast. I like this one, it's succient and to the point. Also a lot of good guests. Topics cover technical brewing matters, beer styles, homebrew processes, etc.
  • Homebrew podcast on growradio.org, it's a once a month podcast. They've covered some great topics and it's usually pretty entertaining. They play 3-4 songs during the hour long podcast that I sometimes fast forward through, but I like the topics and humor.
  • The BN Sunday Show: These are long, shows 3-4 hours. I haven't listened to too many, but if there's a guest that I like, the show is usually pretty good. Sometimes the hosts get too off topic for my liking.
