I’m wondering what ways people are using to control gnats

Is that how they pronounce knots in North Carolina?

Gnats on the other hand, a nice breeze wins the day. Man made or not

Are you sure you are dealing with gnats and not fruit flies? I've never had gnats near my homebrew.

And it might be fruit flies. I always called them gnats

Reddish bodies are usually fruit flies
Grayish bodies are usually fungus gnats

Fruit fly trap I use = 2 drops dish soap + 1.5oz white or red wine; in shallow, wide-mouthed, steep-sided bowl; stir soap and wine with finger
Fungus gnat control = horticultural sand, at least 1/4" thick, on surface of all indoor plants

Controlling bugs of any kind is easy. Just brew when it is -20F. No bugs at all.

Try a small cup with apple cider vinegar about 1/2" deep with a couple drops of dish soap. Fruit flies love it

Something like this. My fruit flies must not have liked my dish soap because they wouldn't go in it. I had to use a cone.
Any old leftover fruit in a bit of water will work as bait too if you don't have wine or fruity vinegar.

In NC we get two kinds- little SOB's and big SOB's. The big ones are pain when outside. The little one's are the one's I get in the house/ brew room. I hang a fly strip and spray the day before I brew.
