My electrical outlet (GFCI protected) is flashing red and I can't, for my life, get it to work. Need help.

I already pressed the reset, the test, pressed them both... All possible permutations. I also tried resetting the breaker in the fuse box... Nothing.

Installed 4 months ago, worked for 3 and a half. It is connected to another one that doesn't have the switches to reset or test

The GFCI may have just failed. Like any other gadget, it can crap out. If you're handy, you could just replace it and see what happens.

If there's a real wiring fault, you might find it with this:

However, if the other outlets on that circuit are downstream of the GFCI, it being off will shut them down, too, so you can't test them this way.

I think it is likely that the GFCI has just failed.

Alternatively an issue with the downstream outlet could prevent the GFCI from resetting (which would be proper operation actually)

If the outlet wont reset you wont have any luck with that gadget Horseflesh linked to, it operates off of voltage from the outlet to display faults.

@garcia I am an electrician (of sorts) and personally would try the following. *I would not advise attempting any electrical work on your house if you are not confident in your abilities*
Open the outlet and check the incoming line with a meter to see if you even have the right power arriving at the box.
If yes, disconnect the downstream outlet(s) and re-energize the circuit to test.
If the GFCI still is not operational and wired properly (which if it worked for 3.5 months it should be) then replace the GFCI and test again.
