I drove through the Hallertau region of Bavaria yesterday in search of Hops. Here's some pics of what I found.

This hop farm is so big, the next three pics really need to be stitched together to show the size.

More pics in the next post.

I ran into some hop farmers harvesting some Hallertauer Perle.

This guy just yanks on the hop vine and pulls it down. They use a very thin wire about 1.2 mm thick that just wrap a couple of times around the horizontal cable above. They come through and cut the vine at the bottom and pull the wagon through yanking on each vine. The wire unwinds and comes down with the vine.

These folks were very nice and were surprised that some American Homebrewer stopped by to talk about hops in German. They farm this plot of hops during their vacation time, so it's not a full time job for them.

On the way back to my hotel, I stopped by this brewery for a quick cold one.

The Hell bier rocks! Naturally cloudy and hoppy!

The Dunkle bier was a tad on the sweet side. Kind of like an Alt bier.

I don't know what this is all about, but I had to take a picture of it. Apparently there is some kind of party on the 22nd of September.

You can see the whole set of pics from my hop tour at the link below.

Now it's off to the Freising Folksfest!

Nice pics and I can't believe you were in a bar in Germany for "a quick cold one." that should most definitely be plural. :)

Ok, I confess. Here's a pic from today's Folksfest in Freising. This was my first beer order. It's tough to beat a German Festival in Bavaria!

She's carrying 7 liters of Festbier!

Freising, btw, it home of Weihenstephan, the oldest brewery in the world. No tours though. I'll be back in Freising on Tuesday evening driving to to Vienna tomorrow for work.

Wednesday is a private tour of the Erdinger Brewery. I'm fortunate that my customer has a good friend there as these tours are like hens teeth. Many pics to follow.

Nice pics Ed!! Our waitresses have a difficult time carrying 2 pints and that lady is carrying 7 ltrs, she should come here to train our waitresses!! :D

I wouldn't mess with any of the waitresses at this fest. You should see the forearms and biceps on these ladies. Hooowaa.

OMG I have to plan my Scotland, Ireland and Germany trip for next year...

Dammit Ed, I'm so jealous right now I almost hate you (not really). Seriously, though, you are in beer heaven on Earth. We're planning a trip there next year. I'd appreciate any tips as to where to go and what to see. . .

Prost!! Und haben Sie ein bischen Gemuetlichkeit fuer mich. .

I think Bavaria is German for paradise...Hopfenstrasse just rolls off the tongue like a good beer rolls down the throat...repeatedly.

BREW ON:mug:

Scheisse mann, ich hasse dich! Oi, do i miss Bayern. Going there this winter and in the spring for a few months, but i still am incredibly jealous! Prost Maenner :mug:
