Hi All,

Apologies as this is my first time brewing.

I'm currently at the end of fermentation and need to begin transferring from primary to the keg. I've been told to add Gelatine in the keg to clear the beer, although my concern is will this counter the priming sugar as it kills the yeast?

With this being my first try, I'm not looking for amazing results.

Any help is much appreciated.

Ah, Ok thanks.
Should I add the priming sugar first, leave at room temperature for a week, cool the lager then add gelatine?
Or just add them at the same time?

Thanks again for the help :D

No. You should chill the beer first for at least a day, then add gelatine and wait at least 3 more days, then prepare your priming sugar solution, pour it into your bottling bucket, gently rack your beer into the bucket, and bottle immediately.

You must bottle immediately after mixing in your priming sugar solution. The yeast will ferment it right away, and if the beer isn't in bottles, all it will do is slightly boost the ABV of your beer.

I actually let the gelatin soak in a little hot (not boiling) water, stir and then gently mix it into the top of the primary. After fermentation and any dry hopping is done obviously. You can then cold crash immediately, or if you don't have the cooling capacity, just let it sit for up to a week.
Works just as well as cold crashing with a bit of time in my experience.

Only then do I let the beer into a second bucket, prime and bottle (or keg in your case). Don't worry about the yeast, it'll be fine.

Thanks for help.

Everything seems good now thank you. Had one little mishap where I think I've over primed with the sugar (Keg nearly exploded lager was spewing out everywhere) so had to let the gas out.

Cheers,
