Just water, about 5 gallons or so. Plugged it in, set the temp for about 150 and off it went. Took about 15 to 20 mins to reach temp. Then the heat element dropped down to about 20 percent and it held 150 for 60 mins, not even a degree of difference on the display. I am so fired up. This means all my stress of temp issues are pretty much gone. Figured out how to do step mashes and delay the start as well. Looked on Youtube and found a super simple way to make a whirlpool arm out of stainless steel tubing and hook it to the chiller. I am really fired up about using it. Gonna order the needed ingredients for a simple SMaSH ale I think to try out.

AIO's are amazing because of the temp control. it really makes brewing much easier and fun. they are almost set it and forget it machines. which allows you to prep and clean and store as you go. forgot to clean the fermenter no problem you can do it during the mash. hops can be weighed during the mash. your wife can ask you to put out the garbage (and you can sill ignore her) during the mash its ok. seriously you can actually do other stuff during brew day its awesome. even though it still kills a few hours i like to think i can get a lot done on a brew day now. even if its not the case. at least i think i can.

It's all good but just keep in mind that during a real mash, you will get some stratification so regular stirring is beneficial.
Do you have a link on making a whirlpool arm out of stainless steel tubing?
Why would I need that if there is a recirculation arm and pump? Not being a wise guy, honest question.

This is the one I found during the initial search. I was thinking I can just hook a pipe to the recirculation hose, but not sure if that is going to be strong enough.
The foundry doesn't automatically come with a pump setup and I didn't want to assume. I should have wrote "If you don't have the pump kit....." but then again you DID mention making a whirlpool so I should have figured it out anyway.
