I'm considering dipping my toe into ebrewing, so be gentle.

I now do 10 gallon batches using a manually controlled direct fired recirculating mash tun. I'd like to control my mash temps better. I've considered the Blichman TOP, but I would like to introduce Ebrewing into my setup.

I'm thinking of using Bobby's RIMs tube with a 240volt element running on 120volt (I brew outside and only have access to 120v). I will heat to mash in temp using gas, and then only use the RIMs tube to maintain. I don't need to get to mash out temps because I batch sparge.

I have a Ranco controller, but I've read that it's not a great idea. Can anyone help with ideas for a simple controller that ONlY controls the RIMs element? It doesn't need to run the pump.

Thanks

Here's a stand alone controller. I haven't used it personally, but they are a very reputable company.

This controller only works up to 15 amps, which will control a 240V 4500 watt element at 120V (~9.5 amps current). You might be able to get away with a 240V 5500 watt element at 120V, but it would be drawing 12 amps.
