What are the best materials for these? Is there anything better than the generic black ones? I see there are silicone ones, but silicone has high oxygen permeability, so I don't think that those are ideal.

I agree with ^all that^ - along with the "keg lube dissolves silicone" thing.
Having tried some out many years ago (the baby blue ones) and eventually finding them dissolved inside my QDs, that was the end of that experiment...
