I like pandora, but for some odd reason pandora thinks I like country music. After a while it just seems to go down this path away from classic rock towards country and I just go WTF man if I wanted to hear country I would ask for it now lets get back to some Journey!

Do you tell it you don't like Country? You can give songs the "thumbs up" or "thumbs down". The only other cause I could think of is that it knows how bad Journey is and refuses to play them...:D

Do you lock your computer when you leave your desk? We have a nasty habit of adding Madonna/Spears/Backstreet Boys...to peoples profiles when they are away. It is pretty funny to watch - jamming to metallica then wham Madonna. It usually takes awhile for first time victims.

I'm too eclectic even for Pandora, it hasn't known half of the artists I put in....I mean, come on, who doesn't know who Chic Gamine, Sunkwa, The Cinematic Orchestra, Scruj Macduhk, or The Screaming Orphans are???:D

I guess being a public radio music producer in the 80's and 90's made me a little odd, musically.

Seems pretty cool. I'm seeing how deep its blues playlist is. So far so good.

Thanks for the link!

I tried it at home. Meh. It's okay.

I think I was expecting more from it. Don;t get me wrong it's cool but, for most of my selections it chose songs that "sound" basically the same and got a bit monotonous.

I think it would be nicer if you could select a gendre and let it go from there. As the songs come up you tell it what you like and don;t like and it starts to get more selective.

Most all of what it pops up are band/song that I already have in my collection and I was hoping to come across some new artists.

Ah well.

Lately I have been really digging a lot of Bitish / UK artists (Coldplay, Kate Nash, Lilly Allen, Regina Spektor, Travis, etc...)

OK then, let's share up some of our Pandora stations! I'll go first:

Supergroups: http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh216387311470073826
Indie Folk-rock Chix: http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh216166734834653154
Fusion Bluegrass Jam: http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh10741468428982242

I'm not understanding you here. That's pretty much exactly what Pandora does. If you mouse over the album in the "now playing" list, you get a little "thumbs up" or "Thumbs Down" icon. You use that to tell Pandora if you like its pick or not.

Ummm ... that's exactly what it does. I select a generic genre of music (alt country, post-modern punk, top 40) and it begins playing. As artists come thru, I try to remember to "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" artist/songs. From there it should begin to weed-out what you don't like. It does take quite awhile, but it eventually gets it. However, it doesn't seem to understand that I HATE Gwen Stefani and keeps playing her crappy songs.

Man, it seems like it's always playing Coldplay which I don't particularly care for either.

Maybe I am missing something here. When you go to create a new station it asks you for a "Artist or Song" and then selects other music based around the specified.

What I was saying is taht it's be nice to tell it you want a genre, it builds the playlist, and as you go you thumbs up or down to help it weed things out.

For instance, instead of making "Coldplay Radio" I want to make "British Radio". Maybe I just haven't been that vague with the creator. I suppose I will try tonight.

And yeah, since when was No Doubt ever compared to the likes of My Life with the THrill Kill Kult? I got that last night, WTF? It started with Days of Swine and Roses and somehow found it's way to Spiderwebs. Ummm, I don't think so Mr. Genome!:drunk:

I consider my historical refernces pretty eclectic too and so far it's had most of everything I have dug around for but, the match ups always seem to go mainstream. For me it went from "Einsturzende Neubauten's, Haus der Luge" to some crap from KMFDM. Then it took me from "Coil - Ostia" to Coldplay.

Whatever. I said it before, I think I just expect more from it and was hoping to use it to find more obscure music.

Gotcha. I agree that sometimes, pandora starts to go WAY off base. Here's one idea: Try making the station, then click on the arrow next to the station name, and select "Add More Music to this Station". Then you can seed it witth more artists or songs that you want to have in the playlist. Seems like with a large enough seed list, Pandora should better be able to figure out what you want.

Yeah, the type of genre that you can choose from isn't as varied, as perhaps I think you want. I know there is a British Invasion station under the "select genre" menu under the now playing. It's a sub-genre under the "pop" genre. I haven't selected it. I would suspect it's a lot of Beattles and older brit rock, but maybe it's newer stuff. Just start playing it and pay attention to it and weed out the stuff you don't like.

Yeah, when I first started listening it played a lot of wham, george micheal and crap like that ... I didn't think I picked "gay pop" genre, but I must have.

Thanks. Now I'll be walking around the office all day with a subliminal "Sex on Wheels, Sex on Wheeels!" in my mental soundtrack. Pthbbbt! :)

Ha.

Beats having the hook "Wake up before you go, go...." stuck in your head. Thanks to srm I have wham in my head. I'd rather be humming some crappy ABBA tune that this. I am searching youtube for anything to get it out.

That is just NOT the kind of British music I am after.

I find that searching by Artists and then mixing stations is better than searching by Genre. Especially when it comes to jazz because the possibilities are so vast...

Yeah, after listening to WHAM! and it's various forms for a couple of days I had the urge to wear tight white jeans and tie my t-shirt up over my midriff and put a lot of product in my hair. Thankfully for everyone's sake, it passed before it came to fruition.

I use this when I'm brewing. I grab the wireless laptop and use an AV plug so I can feed it to the stereo.

Its awesome!!!! :rockin:

Maybe there is a way to do this and I just haven't figured it out yet but.....is there a way to make it play just 1 artist?
