I understand that in the UK and most Commonwealth countries 'a pint of beer' is now as often as not just shorthand for half a liter. Go figure.)
I don't know where you understand that from but in the uk at least anything sold as a pint must be a pint. If it's sold as 1/2 a litre it cannot be sold in a pint glass bearing an official weights and measures stamp confirming it is an imperial pint.
Can't speak for the commonwealth but I know for sure that isn't the case here in blighty.
