I have 2 batches right now.

1 IPA. done with White labs 013 no starter, it fermented vividly for a few days.. what I expected. now it's on secondary with dry hopping. almost 3 weeks into secondary and it still lets out a bubble out randomly. I'm about to bottle this next thursday (3 weeks) should I wait more ?

my new batch done this past friday amber ale, with white labs 041 .. did a starter 24 hours before that. I think it's fermenting it has a thick creamy kraeusen on top but no activity at all in the air lock. Well.. I don't spend my day watching it but watched it for a few minutes and nothing. Wondering if I messed up the starter or anything else?

thanks for the info

Ernie

Its fine. The airlock isn't really a good measure of fermentation. I wouldn't worry at all if there is krausen.

+1 and the IPA just sounds like trapped CO2 escaping from the transfer so it'll be ok to bottle.

Hydrometer readings taken 24 hours apart that don't vary is the definitive sign that fermentation has ceased.

It's krausening...this indicates fermentation. If there is no airlock activity that just means the air is escaping elsewhere. Starderup gave the best advice...hydrometer!!!

But honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. It's clearly fermenting and you don't need to bother it. Well done!

thanks for all the info. I wasn't really worried about it as I saw the kraeusen .

I'm mostly curious on why one batch is fermenting like crazy and the next on isn't.

Oh well as long as it's good in a few weeks :)
