I accidentally froze my friends yeast last weekend and so bought him new ones and kept the ones I froze. I moved them to the fridge, but was curious how I go about testing them to see if they are viable and can be used in my brews?

Substitute whatever your base sugar is going to be (the extract you use in brewing) for the DME in the above chart. You want to make a solution that's much weaker than what you make for beer, as this is supposed to be an easy job for the yeast, just to let them reproduce.

If you have other questions about making a starter, I'd recommend you do some searching in the forums. This topic I'm sure has been explained dozens of times over.

Good luck!
