To you guys that convert the chest freezers to keggerators...

I normally serve my beers around 50degreesF

Does the temp control in the freezer make it possible to set the temp that high?

Or is there some sort of additional thermostat type stuff that you have to install?

Thanks...

You did not provide a make and model number, so I am assuming that your chest freezer is like mine and does not permit temperature adjustment up to the ranges homebrewers are looking for.

I use this http://www.micromatic.com/draft-keg-beer/kegerator-conversion-kits-pid-E54.html to override the internal thermostat. There are also analog models that cost less.

works great, going on eight years now. Hope that helps.

No Chest Freezer would let you go that high. You'll need a new thermostat such as a LOVE controller, Johnson A419 or Ranco, ect. Those 3 are common around here. You buy buy Johnsons and Ranco's pre-wired so you just plug them in to the wall and plug the freezer into them and set your temp.
