I'm very close to launching the all new Brewers Hardware website. I'd settled on the tag-line: "Everything You've Always Wanted for Your Brewery." But as I was just looking for some parts, I realized B3 uses the tag-line "Absolutely Everything for Beer Making" I really don't want to get 'tagged' as it were as ripping off MoreBeer.

Since my mind is numb at this point and the HBT users have been so unbelievable supportive, I decided I'd turn to you guys for help and offer something back at the same time.

So here it is: Help me come up with a new tag-line and the winner will receive a new Brewers Hardware stir plate shipped to their door in the US.

Rules:

  1. I get to change them as I want.
  2. Your entry needs to be emailed to derrin at brewershardware dot com, entries published in this thread but not emailed are not eligible.
  3. If two people send the same tag-line or very similar tag lines, the first entry will be the winner.
  4. You may submit as many entries as you want but please try to do so on a single email.
  5. I'll accept entries for the next week or until 3/19/10, even if the site is live before then.
  6. I'll notify the winner by responding to the email submitted and the winners name will be published in this thread.

Here is a preview of the new site:http://www.brewershardware.com/DEV/xcart/

Keep in mind it is a work in progress and a few of the categories shown will not be there when it goes live until I work through some supply issues and such.

THANKS EVERYONE!

I hate to say it buuuut....

You need to work on the layout. I know, I know, I've just called the baby, "ugly". :( But really, the "new" website looks like so many other websites out there. When I looked at it, THIS is the *very* first thing I thought of, and it's not even homebrewing related.

The thing I loved about your "old" website is that, even though it has the crummy PayPal "Add to Cart" buttons, the site really didn't look like too many other sites out there. And distinctiveness, I think, is a desirable quality.

Heck, sometimes I go to your site for ideas and inspiration even if I have no intention of buying anything. The current site is really informative and doesn't feel like a merchant website - it feels like, "Hey, I'm a homebrewer that's come up with a few neat ideas that will make your homebrew day just a bit better." And I'm even planning out my brewery to incorporate your Sankey fermeter doo-dads when I *finally* get back to the States!

But as far as your motto goes? Really? You have "Everything" and "for" in common - it would take a DAMN greasy lawyer to argue they're even remotely similar aside from everything and homebrew.

In the end, though, it's your business and you are the one that has to live with the results - I'm just an armchair John Madden saying, "If I were running a HB wesite, *HERE'S* what I would do!"

I wish you best of luck - selfishly, because I really hopre you're selling the Sankey fermenter doo-dads about a year and a half from now! :mug:

Great response everyone! Keep them coming! I've got quite a few that are really good!!

Ya know.... This was actually quite a sticking point for me for a while. I really like the character of the old site and I test drove a few 'carts' that were supposed to 'integrate seemlesly into your existing site' but in the end none of them did. I've out grown the "crummy" PayPal buttons and it's become too much work to add new products to the site.

Funny you pointed out that other site, I viewed the source and it's also an Xcart site. I did change just change the width and I plan on adding back the nicer larger images in each product detail to try and keep some of the personality. In the end, I hope I can strike a balance. Making the jump to a site that can better reflect what I offer but reflects less of me has been somewhat of a struggle. I wish I could do both, but there are only 24 hours in a day and I gotta sleep a few of them :drunk:

You should also use Strict validation instead of Transitional as to make sure that it displays correctly with all browsers. When I go to the sight I only see part of the words on the submit buttons. Other than that thing look good and keep up the good work. I hope thinks work out in your favor and once you get things up and running I might just place an order from you. Once again good luck.

Thanks everyone for the overwhelming response! I know I said I'd announce a winner yesterday, but I still have a lot to decide from. I also had a lot of people say they liked the tag line I was using so I might even just keep it. Even if I do, I'm a man of my word so I'll pick a first runner up and that willbe the winner.

Stay tuned..... I'll announce soon.

Thanks again,
Derrin

Welp,

After all was said and done, I decided to stay with my existing tag line. I might be overly attached. But, since it would be pretty lame to hold a contest and not have a winner, with the help of a few friends I did pick 'a winner'. HBT user Daddymem won with:

"We take the hard out of brewing hardware".

Thanks to all who participated. Everyone who entered received a 5% off coupon via email.

Stay tuned for more give aways in the future and thanks everyone for your support.

Hey Derrin,

Will you be carrying Erlenmeyer flasks soon? I still can't get the code to work, I'd be happy to add a flask and pay the difference and that would probably get the code to work.

TIA
