I FINALLY got my frame powder coated and wanted to share with everyone. I welded it from old (free) bed frames. Anyone have advice on protecting it before I brew on it and it chips/burns off all over the place?

Thanks Junkster. I doubt it will last long, brewing this weekend and from what I've read I should be exptecting the paint around the burners to fail. I'll try and rig some heat shields best as possible.

As for the mash tun, thats going to be an experiment also. My mash usally seems to be a few degrees warmer in the center than on the side walls. I don't stir the mash but I recirculate the entire hour.

I bought hot water heater insulation from home depot and wrapped it around the tun, then cut black walnut wood pieces and used a strap with a crank on it to tighten them into place. Then I just screwed the banding on in place with stainless screws and removed the straps when finished. Oh, and I used satin exterior polyurethane to seal the wood.

The experiment side of this is that the plastic wrap around the fiberglass insulation may very well melt during the mash... I dont direct fire the mash tun so it will only be +/-155. Ill keep my fingers crossed. Going to be a fun brewday...
