From Founders email yesterday

Cadre,

As you know, we’re celebrating our 20th anniversary this year. We’ve hosted contests, commissioned custom artwork and reminisced about our humble beginnings. But, what would a celebration be without BEER?!

Following on the heels of Deca for our 10-year anniversary, Bolt Cutter for our 15th, we’re happy to share our 20th anniversary beer…

Tank Bender
eisbock aged in bourbon barrels

Tank Bender is our first foray into the rare style known as eisbock. This style involves freezing water off the beer, resulting in ultra-concentrated flavor, deeper body and, in our case, a bent tank from collapsing ice. A liberal addition of Munich malt highlights the toasty and dark fruit notes while a stay in bourbon barrels tames those intense flavors.

We will be selling special Tank Bender bottles and gift sets on-site at the brewery. They will be sold near our Education entrance off of Williams St. beginning at 10am on October 14 and running through 11pm or until we run out – whichever comes first.

  • First come, first serve – that’s right – this should hearken back to the good ol’ days.
  • There will be two options:
    • 750mL individual bottle ($20 each) OR a gift set, which includes (1) 750mL bottle, (2) commemorative glasses, a custom box and booklet ($60 each).
    • Each customer will be limited to purchasing either (2) 750mL bottles OR (1) 750mL bottle and (1) gift set.
    • Tank Bender will also be on draft during the party. Details below.

Save the date for our 20th anniversary party! We’ll be celebrating in our taproom as well as the street out front
    • October 14, 2017.
    • No cover charge.
    • Party starts at 1pm in both the taproom and the street out front. We’ll close the outdoor party at 11pm and continue in the taproom until 2am.
    • Live music from the FBC All Stars and more!
    • Food trucks and special offerings from the Founders deli.
Jesus. Bolt Cutter came out five years ago. I feel old as **** now.

Announcing the sixth and final release in the 2017 Barrel-Aged Series!

CBS

CBS_Reveal_FBTWITTER-2-920x552.jpg

CBS was born when we stumbled upon some bourbon barrels that had previously housed maple syrup. We opted to put the same base beer as KBS, an imperialized version of Breakfast Stout, in the maple barrels and, after one taste, we knew we had something special. Rich maple syrup, roasted coffee and velvety chocolate meld together in what can only be described as a transcendental drinking experience.

Last bottled in 2011, CBS has become one of the most highly sought-after beers in the world and for good reason. It’s damn good. You all have been very vocal in petitioning for its return and it would’ve been cruel for us to hold out any longer in delivering on that.

CBS will be available everywhere, including our Grand Rapids taproom, on draft and in 750mL bottles beginning on December 1. It will have a suggested retail price of $24.99 a bottle.

Similar to our annual release of KBS, CBS will be released via an online ticket sale. More info coming in the public announcement next week!

So the wife said yes? Congrats man.

Wonder if they'll do the 4-packs for this one? Guessing not, given what they said, but...

Also guessing this will see distro, too.
No mention of 12oz format, and the only label approved in the TTB database is the 750mL. Distro in all Founders markets.

Was just looking over the 2018 calendar, and FIS is absent. But BA#4 is the same color as FIS has been on previous years' calendars. I'm hoping they took their entire batch of FIS, slated for bottling this year, and dumped it into barrels. Had BA FIS once at a Black Party? long ago and it was so good. Fingers crossed.

Can you post the full calendar, please?

Anyone had Solid Gold? Local place got it in for $8 a six pack. That price point excites me and terrifies me at the same time.

Thoughts?

Bring back an old fave......

Cadre,

We are happy to announce the next release for our 2018 Barrel-Aged Series:

CURMUDGEONBH.jpg

Curmudgeon’s Better Half

What tames an old ale like Curmudgeon? The tender embrace of oak and sweet maple, that’s what. The result is Curmudgeon’s Better Half, a harmonious matrimony of our deceptively smooth old ale brewed with molasses and time spent aging in bourbon barrels that have previously held maple syrup. Because all counterparts should be sweet, rich and utterly delicious.

That’s right, we’re bringing this old favorite back from retirement – last bottled in 2012, Curmudgeon’s Better Half has become one of the most highly requested beers and for good reason. It’s damn good. You all have been very vocal in petitioning for its return and it would’ve been cruel for us to hold out any longer in delivering on that.

As part of this release, we will be asking for your help to announce publicly. You may remember what we did with CBS last year – this time you will all be receiving something special. What that is will remain a mystery for now.

Curmudgeon’s Better Half will be available in 4-packs of 12oz bottles, 750mL bottles and on draft in both of our taprooms beginning mid-August (exact date to come) and everywhere else later that month. It will have an SRP of $16.99/4-pack and $12.99/750mL bottle.

It is the fifth release in the 2018 Barrel-Aged Series, preceded by KBS, Backwoods Bastard, Dankwood and our not-yet-publicly announced Barrel Runner. If you’ve been counting, that means we have one left to go before we close out the year… what could it be?

This information was shared with you, our Cadre members, first. Look for more details about the beer on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram closer to the release.

Never thought I’d say it about a Founders release again but ... ISO.

I’m so confused...why isn’t this a barrel-aged chili IPA?

going to be in GR come July. what means this Barrel-Aged #4?

Anyone have any issues with Backwoods Bastard bombers?
I opened a 2017 tonight and it has a sour taste and a funky smell and not in a good way. It's been refrigerated since I bought it last year.

They deserve to burn for that. They acknowledged the use of the N-word and then said all the charges are false? Ok.
Yeah, this sucks all around. To be honest I'd be dismissing my head of HR if those sorts of reports were not being followed up sufficiently (as they appear not to be).
