Hello!

I'm in Chicago, and looking to get into all grain brewing. I have a decent setup I've cobbled together, and am looking to start my first batch up. However, bulk grain seems to be super expensive to order.

I was hoping to run into someone who went in on a Chicago group buy, and possibly trade some Delicious Grass fed beef for a bag of 2 row.

The beef I have has been raised by a friend of mine, and is completely grass fed, hormone free and free range. It's also USDA inspected. I purchased half a cow that will be available in the coming days.

A great meal goes excellently with some beer.
Let me know if you're interested. This is the real stuff. He raises 3 cows at a time with the utmost care.

Plus, I cant brew steaks into beer.

Oh, wow. I'd so trade you in a minute for that. Unfortunately, I'm way too far away. I LOVE good beef, but don't eat grocery store meat for the most part so rarely get it. I'd almost drive to Chicago just for this!

I'm sure you'll get a taker, so consider this a bump for your thread!

yeah, shipping 50 pound sacks is expensive. Try contacting a home brew store close to you and asking if they will sell you bigger amounts, a guy near me, Homebrew4Less sells 50 pound bags of 2 row for around $36 - making group buys unnecessary.

Check out the group buys page below the classifieds section as well - you might find one near you.

Also, contact any local breweries - they might be willing to sell you some grain on the cheap.

we buy grass fed organic by the half and the meat is amazing - I hop you find someone to trade with you.

Look up Brew and Grow. They have several stores around Chicago. I have a friend stop at the one in Rockford for me. 2-Row last time was $39 for a 55 lb sack.

Thanks for all the replies, Brew and grow and Bev Art are definitely both inexpensive options. Currently though I'm long on beef and short on cash, and meeting some fellow brewers around the area would be great, not to mention someone to bounce some ideas off of in person.

The last time he had one ready, we had ribeye for dinner and burgers for desert.

Where in the area are you and what are you willing to trade for a sack of 2-row. I usually have quite a bit on hand... PM me if interested. My location in my profile is accurate.

They just raised their bulk prices. 2 row was 34, now 50. Bastiges.

Ergh... Mobile app and excessive homebrew are not good together. You can do up to 40# on northern brewer with the flat shipping.

When are you looking to make a trade? I will be traveling through the Chicago area back home from Milwaukee on Tuesday. I can swing by NB and pick up a sack for trade if that's a good time.

I just picked up a 1/2 or I definitely would have taken you up on this. If you don't find anyone let me know, I have extra 2 row and probably some marris otter too
