Made a 2L starter a couple days ago with an older vial of yeast. Today (brew day) I went to get the starter and apparently it vigorously fermented last night and the foil came off the flask. Now I am kinda sketchy as to whether I should use it or not.

Any opinions?

JB

It depends on you really. Can you spend more money on dry yeast to switch it out (and do you want to)? You can't have another starter finished in time unless you push back your brew day.

If it just came off last night I would bet its fine. Ultimately its a gamble, albeit a small one.

Personally I'd use it, but YMMV.

Used it. Thanks for the calming reassurances. Bubbling away in the swamp cooler as I type and smells yummy! If it ends up infected, however, all you will will receive a bottle and be forced to drink it, lol.

Cheers,
JB
