Oh how badly I wanted to go... but oh how high the airfare is. No idea why, I've flown to Chicago countless times for reasonable prices.

My loss is someone else's gain. I have two Saturday night session tickets available. I just need to figure out how to transfer them.

It's the proximity to Thanksgiving that's making the flight tix so $$$. Might be a deal breaker for me as well.

Not sure what airline you prefer flying, but if Southwest is an option, check prices often since they fluctuate up and down almost daily. I recently flew them to Portland, OR using my SW Rewards points and was able to get over 20,000 points back for 2 roundtrip tickets between original booking and the day we flew out just by jumping on changing them when the "price" went down. I would just check every Tuesday or Thursday morning.

Because the GF is in Chicago and not in Tampa :p

(although I'll be joining you all for good in January!)

Do you really need more alcohol before or after FOBAB doe?

Not saying I haven't done it, but look deep into yourself when asking if you need more.

Have you seen that brewery list at Northdown?

Why anyone would fly to this instead of Shelton fest is beyond my comprehension.

While I enjoyed Shelton more for the diversity available, old school FOBABs were pretty much unbeatable. The new, localized FOBAB with a bunch of meh Illinois breweries isnt as exciting.

I agree.

That's why I want to know why anyone would fly to FOBAB instead of Sheltonfest.

This. FOBAB 2012 may have been the best festival I've ever attended. Nothing beats the Bridgeport Arts Center on a sunny, November afternoon.

I did like the BAC much more than UIC as a venue, but I don't really recall the beer offerings being any better then. I feel now there are more great options, but also more meh options to sift through as well. So ignoring the venue aspect, kind of a wash for me.

We can't all be so discerning.

Yeah, totally forgot about that. I was lucky enough to not be in the elevator, but that had to suck for the folks trapped in there for an hour.
It did. Especially when someone got on the radio to ask our elevator operator if we needed help, and he emphatically said NO!

:(

I don't know if the beer was better a few years ago, but it felt more like a national fest instead of a local one. That's probably because even in 2012 it wasn't a given that a brewery had a barrel program like it is now. Places like CCB, FW, Oskar Blues, and more were all pouring. Now the thing is 50% Illinois breweries. Which is fine; It's just different.

True Story:
The first FOBAB (I believe held in the back room of GI Wrigleyville) let you pour your own beer! I wasn't there but a friend was. He said it was not a good result...

I was there the 2nd year (at GI Wrigleyville) and swore off beer fests for a long time because of how many ******* hunchbacks were there. *Shudder* But I did get to try Utopias and Bourbon County for the first time so that **** was pretty tight, in retrospect.

I've actually never seen a mini mason jar.
In regards to these mini mason jars:
Amy just said "Ugh, Pete Crowley needs to stop being in charge." When I informed her that he was no longer the head bitch in charge, she said "Pete Crowley needs to be in charge again!"
