I brew a lot of beer, have made a batch of skeeter pee, a few batches of cider, and am stepping into my first batch of grape wine.

I see people use the larger plastic bucket for primary, which I don't have. What I do have is three six gallon carboys, I assumed I could use one for primary wine fermentation. I noticed with both the pee and cider I didn't get much in the way of foam.

Is there any reason for me to not use a carboy? It's a fairly cheap kit, no worries about skin.

It will work, but it will be a PIA getting in there to stir, check SG, add chemicals, pour the juice in, etc. Also, yeast needs air to start and a carboy chokes off the air supply.

A blow-off tube and a really long stirring rod will be your best friends.
