I bought a hop spider because I found on one of my homebrews that the filter that fits to the inside of the kettle would get blocked causing the flow rate to slow to a trickle. I bought some of the hop socks but I misplaced a couple and only have 3 left. If you buy the less expensive hops bags make sure you don't buy this one like I did:

The laces are made out of cotton, you want to buy the nylon laces with a fastener. The hop bags can leak out the small opening and once I had a batch where a whole bag had leaked its contents into the boiling wort.
My main objection to the bags is that these fill up easily even though you added only like 1oz or 20g so you need a few of them. A hop spider would never need to be replaced because of reusability and it is difficult to misplace it because no one is going to pick it up and throw it in the bin because of its small size.

Although it is cheaper than the hops spider, I would think that it still works okay. But you can see in the photos the small gap at the top of the bag. This can sometimes leak.
On my next batch I am thinking of doing a Doppel Brau and hope to save on my electricity expenditure since it is less water to heat.
I also have never dryhopped before in my life and wonder what the dry hopping spider would be like.
