Just got into this for my 12 year old. She wants to make her own kombucha every week. Got a starter kit and started brewing 4 days ago. Attached is the pictures of the kombucha right now. I don’t think it’s moldy, but just want to make sure. What are those black dot floating on top if someone can help. Thanks

It doesn't look like there's any mold, which is usually fuzzy, floating on top.

Some discoloration on the scoby is normal.
I don't know what those small black dots are, though. Did they develop recently?

If they're indeed small mold sites, as long as they're submerged it's unlikely they can grow or spread.
Maybe before you start the next batch cut them off?

Thank you so much for your reply. I was afraid that we did not use enough starter on this batch. We bought a two pack scoby from Amazon and only used one of them and limited starter kombucha.
We will wait a few more days and see. Thanks
Meanwhile we are planning to use the second Scoby to start a new batch with green tea instead of black tea.
Thanks
