Hey all, I am into my 10th batch today in my first year of brewing. I have been lurking in the forums for a while now and I have learned a great many things to THANKS first of all.

It was raining like mad today so I decided to play indoors, did an extract porter while bottling my all grain Pliny clone.

Today I had a mishap... When I was checking my gravity I noticed something strange... The top of my hydrometer was broken. I am not sure how, and I am not sure when. But I do know it sat in the bucket that I used as a fermenter while the bucket was full of starsan.

Even though I remember rinsing the bucket as well, I didn't see the broken hydrometer until I was actually taking a measurement and I am semi paranoid...

Should I:

A) Dump the batch?
B) Use a hop bag / fine strainer when going to secondary?

You should be safe, if there should be any glass shards they should get stuck in the trub.

Edit: Oh, and welcome to the forum.

There isn't much that would prevent me from drinking beer, but broken glass does the trick. Do-Over; play taps as you dump it down the drain.
That's what I would do anyway.
:(

Usually no need for secondary but in this case, strain it through a fine filter from primary to secondary and be sure to leave a nice layer on the bottom of the primary by keeping your hose/siphon up away from the trub a little further than usual.
