So after plenty of noob mistakes and feeling nervous all day, when I got home from work the Air lock was bubbling away!

Just wanted to say thank you all for the help. Now I just need to sit back, relax and I'll hopefully be enjoying some good HB soon!

Congrats on your first brew,

What type of mistakes !

go and buy some SNPA and start stocking up on bottles

( Sierra Nevada Pale Ale) very good reusable bottles !!!

Fact 1. 87% of new Home Brewers drink 50% of their first attempt at beer before it is completely carbonated.

Fact 2.
The remaining 50% is drunk within 3 weeks after carbonation but before the beer has reached it's full potential.

Fact 3. 84% of percentage statistics are complete BS made up so people will sound smarter than they are.

GOOD JOB :mug:

Well lets see...

1. Squeezed the bag of grains a whole lot!
2. Pushed the rubber gasket though the top of the Ale Pale with the air lock.
3. I think I let the yeast rehydrate for to long (2 hours) because
4. The thermometer broke and I thought my wert was 109 degrees when it was much lower.
5. My only other thermometer didn't go below 80 so I at least knew it was lower than that!

I guess nothing to bad... would of been much worst if not for this site.

I'm pretty sure I'll be one of those 87% who drink their beer to soon and fast!

congrats, now don't try it until 3 weeks in bottle. Then wait another 3 weeks to try it again, you won't regret it. :) Unless it is a style that demands being green, like hefe's.

That's a lot of waiting!:cross: But I'll try. Its an Irish Red Ale from Midwest. But a Hefe is the next brew I'm looking to do!

The only way I can wait 3 months for anything is if it is Apfelwein.

"OOOOOH my god! My 30 day old Apfelwein tastes like dead rat!"

Yeah, well I've fallen into both your first Fact 1. statistic and even more so, your second Fact 2. statistic, so that adds up to 100% for me, so you should change Fact 3. to 0%, because I'm a good sample! :drunk:

I also pushed the gasket through the lid on my first batch... tried to seal it up with a sanitized rubber band, haha. It came out just fine.

Its a Irish Red from Midwest.

Gotta say that the swamp bucket trick is the JAM! Its 95 degrees outside in South Florida but my bathtube water is 60 degrees and the Ale Pale is 65-68.

Can't beat that for a free way to cool your Brew!
