Congrats on the new house! It took me four months after moving in till I was finally able to brew.

Egad!! man!! Your priorities were all screwed up.

Set up the bedroom first, enough kitchen stuff to cook, computer and tv.
THEN THE BREWING setup. No later than day 3. Brew on day 4!!!!!

Congrats on the new house. It is always interesting setting things up in a new house.

All my family and friends that helped me move drank all my home brew!

Ah well, that's the price you pay.

I took 2 months off when I moved back in april, still haven't caught back up on my supply!

Enjoy congrats on the new house! :mug:

Well the inaugural brew is in the bucket!

My boil off rate was considerably higher. I lost about a gallon more than I had anticipated. So I am left with ~4.5 gallons.

Should I top it off?

it would be interesting to see if you can tell a difference in your beer based on your location's water profile ;)

How close was your estimated OG? It should be over what you expected, so you can top off if you want.

Unless you already pitched yeast... then I'd just let it ride.

Yeah, I'll just let it slide, I think.

Thanks for the advise guys!

Whooo boy, time to clean up.

I just moved and recently did my first batch at my in-laws. We're staying with them while I find work and a place to live. I hadn't brewed since Jan b/c school/moving so it was really good to be back in the saddle!

I actually top off most batches a little bit. Some of it's laziness in never having exactly calculated my BO rate, and just aiming to come up a little short if anything (you can top off, but you can't do the opposite). If I end up with lower efficiency, I don't top off. If I get higher efficiency, I often top off to get closer to OG, even with the volume I was shooting for. Finally, I use frozen or chilled sterile water to top off to get those last pesky degrees of chilling done.

You can always top off with your priming sugar solution, too--just boil a little extra water with the sugar as needed!
