So i just started my first batch of beer. And now the problems start. The main problem i have is that the airlock is overflowing with foam. Does this mean oxygen is getting into the fermenting process? I also noticed that when i put all the wort and water in the bucket it almost reached the top (within an inch) is that to close?

Yeah that's too close. You need at least a gallon to a gallon and a half of head space.

The flow is outward so you're safe here.

You need to create a blow-off tube:
Mount a 3-4 foot long, 1/2" ID vinyl tube on the (3-piece) airlock shaft, and leave the inside dome trap and the small plastic lid off. Vent the other side of the hose into a large jug (plastic milk jug) with an inch or 2 of starsan or other sanitizer.

It helps to open up the bottom of the airlock shaft by cutting off the small star or triangle.

As always, keep everything well sanitized when working with your beer.

Ok awesome, well definitely not as worried as i was early.

definitely going to work on a blow off tube today. ill post pics later.

thanks again.
