So I finally got the courage up to try an original recipe and this is what I came up with. Pretty much a smash recipe as I'm still trying to understand how ingredients work with each other. I came in a little low on my fermentables as I wasn't using a calculator and I'm a little scared that I over hopped. Let me know what you think!

Wheat APA LME*

5lbs Light LME
1lb Wheat LME
8oz Crystal 10
4oz Cascade
SA-05

3 Gal Boil

-Steep crystal for 30min
-Add 2lbs extract @ 60min
-Add 1oz cascade @ 60min
-Add 2lbs extract @ 40 min
-Add 2lbs extract @ 20 min
-Add 1oz cascade @ 15min
-Add Whirfloc tablet @ 10min
-Add 1oz cascade @ 5min
-Add 1oz cascade @ 0 min

IBU 33
OG 1.046

you can add 2 # of extract at 60 mins. and the rest at flameout

I put it into software as a 5 gallon batch and you get an OG of 1.043 and a FG of 1.012

with a late addition of your extract with a 6.5 gallon boil you are looking at a IBU of 64

without the late addition it is 54 IBU

which is a bit high for APA

all the best

PS with the SmaSh recipes I have been doing I have been trying to keep my IBU between 22 - 24 it gives you a balance

You may have a bit too much hops for that style, but Cascade is a pretty mellow hops and a good one. With so much late hopping it should be just fine.

I love Cascade and use it a lot, but you may find what you have for a recipe is too hoppy

not a lot of malt to balance the flavors

I like to at least look at this chart to get an idea of what it may taste like

if you use my numbers it off the chart

but in the end it will be beer and it is your beer

enjoy

with a three gallon boil you are in a better place :)

og 1.041 fg 1.011 UBI 33

hoppy but not too hoppy

I've never seen that chart before but I love it! Quick visual reference for what you want to achieve! And yeah I did a 3 gallon boil so it actually helped drop my ibu a little. According to brewers friend I should have had an OG of 1.046 (which I did) and 36 IBUs. So that would still put me a little higher than what I wanted but not over the top. Assuming their calculation is correct...
