So I am doing my first AG and I want to brew a pale ale. I want to try This recipe i found but dont want to dry hop because i want to check the chillhaze without any risk of hop floaties, still need to get a dry hopper.

So the recipe calls for this:

15 minute-- 1 oz Citra
10 minute--1 oz Citra
5 minutes- 1/2 oz Citra
1 minute - 1/2 oz Citra
Flameout--1.5 oz Citra
Dry hop- 2 oz Citra

So I want to do a simple boil and was thinking this would work:
30Minute--1 oz of Citra
10 minute--1oz Citra
5 minute--1/2 oz Citra
1 minute- 1/2 citra
Flameout --2 oz of Citra, thinking about adding 1 oz of cascade too.

Any recommendations, would this be a good sub if im not dry hopping? Citra as 13%

I would add a 60 minute addition for a high percentage of total IBU's...then add rest of hops at 15 and in to capture the aroma and flavor you are going for... I like Citra hops...a Citra pale ale..mmm

If i Used a sixty minute boil should i remove a couple ozs?

I would leave out cascade, just because I think it would be cool to just showcase the Citra hops...just my preference though

Keep in mind this is all a wag as I don't know your grain bill, OG, etc...good luck!!

I agree. Just do a single hop of citra without the cascade. I too think citra would overpower the cascade. I have found the same to be true with Galaxy. No matter what I put with I only taste the Galaxy.

That's a crap ton of hops for an APA, IMHO. I use 1/2 ounce at 10 mins and 1 ounce at flame out. That's it. Balance and drinkability are key for an APA.

Funny stuff. I made an all citra PA that used a half pound. BU:GU was 1.0. I thought it was awesome, so I entered it in a competition. I was worried I would get dinged for being an IPA. Instead, all 3 judges suggested more hops. LTS?

Judgings funny like that. I made a hopped up amber...it was great. So entered it in comp as amber and IPA...same beer same comp diff categories. The judges who scored the amber told me it was hoppy and should be entered as IPA, the judges who scored the IPA told me not enough hops and should be entered as an Amber....lol...good stuff!

As others have said, without a full recipe its tough to really judge what you're looking at. I'm going under the assumption that you are looking for a balanced pale ale with a lot of citrusy hop flavor/aroma.

So, if you want great aroma without dry hopping, you'll want to do a hop stand. Add a small bittering addition (maybe 20-30 IBU) at the beginning with a neutral hop (Magnum, Galena etc). I would increase the amounts of your 5 and 1 minute additions, and combine your 10 min and flameout additions. To do the hopstand: At the end of your boil, cut the heat and chill to ~180F and add your hops. Let them sit in there for at least 15 minutes (I go 30). After that, chill to 65F and pitch a neutral ale strain. The low bittering addition will help maintain balance and keep it from being harsh. The large late hop addition will give the flavor/aroma. You won't achieve what you'd get if you dry hop, but it'll get you there.

Are you going for all-citra? If not, a proportion of a complementary hop (Cascade, Centennial) can bring out the grapefruit aroma. If a Citra single hop is what you're after, check out the thread trying to clone Zombie Dust.

If you post a full recipe, it will be easier to provide feedback. Also, I've got to ask: what's a dry hopper?

Good luck!
