First 24 hour fermentation temp

My wort started fermentation about 12 hours after yeast pitch. It's currently sitting in a room and the wort is fermentating at about 78 degrees. I know this is high and when I get home I'm going to do the shirt method with a tote bin but will the wort taste different after being in that kind of heat after only 24 hours? Or am I still good to go??
 
Most of the esters and fusel alcohols are formed in the first 48 hours.

Yeah man I live in Florida. I have brewed many of many batches in degrees of 78, room temp. If you keep it lower than 75 that should be your goal! I higher temp ferment could and will make a sourness start, so pinch your growth. Buy a refrigerator to place your fermenter into or control your temps a little better. But I have also done this. I have had plenty of batches set in 78, secondary my brew, let it set for 14 more then another 14 in a cooler fridge, and tasted awesome. Keep trying your beer will be fine but try that out to eliminate a bitter or sour smell

Ya as soon as I get off work I'm going to try the t shirt method until I can save up and get a fridge for the fermentation. I live in So Cal right now and I'm unlucky to not have a basement where is contantly cool so I'm trying my best to keep the temp down, it's just hard in this type of weather when it's getting 105 outside.

Absolutely! I bought a used fridge. 20 bucks. A cool tshrt, ice water batch. Patience patience patience is also the better ingredient. It'll be alright
 
Cool man. I'm just going to be positive and hope it all works out. At least I know better for next time haha
 
Since a fridge alone can't control the temperature within the range you need, you might consider a couple of options. I have a friend who created what is likely the best solution for warm weather environments and cooling on the cheap. He purchased a super cheap water pump, a small plastic fan, tubing and the $21 Ductstat Plug-In Thermostat Temperature Sensitive Switch from Home Depot. The whole thing cost him ~$30.

Place the pump in the bottom of a bucket or small trash can large enough so that water can cover roughly half + of the carboy. Run tubing up and over the carboy and either poke holes in the top or purchase tiny sprinkler-like heads that plug into the tubing. Hold in place by putting t-shirt over the carboy. Mount fan above carboy and plug the pump and fan into the thermostat. Thermostat has, I believe, a sensor that should be sitting inside the water. When it gets above 70 degrees it turns on the fan and water is pumped over the carboy.
