Hi Pawtucket. The problem with filtering your beer if you bottle condition is that you need the yeast to carbonate and condition the beer in the bottle. You do not want to filter out the yeast. Of course, if you are force carbonating and then bottling from your keg, not problem.
 
If you strain your wort good before adding the yeasties, prior to fermentation, then you really wont have much residue at all.
