First off, the water if Central TX is pretty insane with tons and tons of carbonate and the pH is regularly in the 9.0-9.3 range but what the troublesome part is the chloramine that is added.
I'd like to have my filter near my brew stand on brew day and not have to carry water from inside the kitchen where my filter is. My plan is to mount a dual canister filter on or near my brew stand with a solenoid control. One canister would be an activated carbon filter that is to filter 20 micron and the other a combination of activated carbon and some other material that filters down to 0.5 micron that claims to remove 97% chlorine, metals, etc. that the former filter might miss.
My question to any of you guys that have a filter that you have outside is what is the best method of storing the entire filtering system between brew sessions? Since I'd like to mount it to or near the brew stand and have plans of running my waterhose to the inlet what do I do when I disconnect the water hose? Should I drain both canisters and allow them to dry or just let it sit after plugging both the inlet and outlet? I hate the idea of water just sitting on the filters where spores and other nasties might start growning if I don't brew for 3 or 4 weeks.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
