So glad there's burrito discussions over here. That was the only thing I was missing about BA
What's the good burrito place down the street? I can probably convince my wife to go there more often if there are burritos involved.
Picante, La Palmita or Chipotle!?

Staggered over from Fieldwork to Picante last time I was there. Curious to know if it's just as good whilst sober. Based off my pics, I had the al pastor burrito (and I always have my beans refried).

For others more familiar with the area, I'm all ears.

I'm pretty sure we're not going to agree on good Mexican food places based on this qualifier alone.

Actually, I've found SF area burritos to be a lot better once I had them stop adding rice and beans and then adding guac. Gets them a lot closer to the SD style, though the meat marinades are still fairly different. Tacos are still where it's at up here though.

To me it's silly to have ordinary pinto or black beans (or whatever bean). My ideal burrito would be tortilla, layer of refried, scoop of rice mashed into the refried, meat, then cilantro and onion. Just the way I grew up is all.

I'm firmly on team No Rice. No sour cream, either. Also agreed that the tacos are overall better than the burritos.

Picante is def legit, even when sober. Not sure how far it is(too far to walk from Fieldwork) but Gordo's is the burrito of choice in Berktown. There's 2 of them on College Ave.

I've had good burritos with rice and beans, and good burritos without rice and beans. I don't understand why people get so hung up on this.
I don't understand why you can't understand my personal preference, Stu...

Growing up, I was fine with rice and beans on my burritos. 5 years in San Diego changed me. They just don't do it for me any more. I want meat (Carne Asada or Carnitas), guac and pico. That's it. Everything else is a distraction and unnecessary filler.

Also, California burritos are an abomination. The fry texture ruins the burrito. I know that's not strictly relevant to this conversation, but I wanted to get it off my chest.

For sure but I think we're more talking about your finding your perfect burrito. I like to switch it up with things like beans and meats, but my perfect or ultimate burrito would never have rice. Also, I used to live walking distance to Clement Gordo and have to say that while I like it, I can probably think of at least 10 places in the city that I prefer to Gordo.

I was speaking generally. To hear discussion about this you'd think each side thinks the other is literally advocating eating babies. It's kind of absurd. (Although I do find it pretty weird that adding ingredients that you're otherwise fine with ruins something for you.)
