1. Is the area nice?

1. Probably not.
2. Maybe, but there is poor public transit out there unless you want to endure the bus.
3. Probably not.

The Humbolt Park neighborhood is rather large and runs the gamut of ok to rather shady. West of the park itself and south of north ave has gang problems. If you go even farther west there really isn't much going on for the typical beer nerd. Feel free to message me for more detailed information.

answers from a logan square resident since 2008:

1) depends on the block. are you west or east of the park? if you're west, the answer is almost definitely 'not really'. if you're east, it depends a lot on the block.
2) see #1.
3) kinda, but also see #1. you will have more competition east of the park.
4) it better be a really good beer to make me wait six hours, no matter where you are. no one is going to **** with a giant crowd of white dudes (let's be realistic, that's the primary audience for beer releases) waiting for beer.
5) your username is more than 3 syllables. but so is mine, i give no *****

I just asked for some cross streets and he said around west 47th street around elmhurst. Not sure if that is another little mini city or street name. I think he is wrong, calling to confirm.

that is not even a realtor's bastardization of "west logan square" or even "west humboldt park". it's not even in the city. your friend needs a lot more education about the city before they even should consider doing any business here.

plenty of good spaces in humboldt. some abandoned, some for sale. take a jaunt down grand ave between kedzie and pulaski. upside is grand's width (freight traffic), diagonal trajectory, and bike-friendliness. another is relative proximity to two metra stops. downside is the only reasonable el stops are along the green line.

heard rumblings of goose opening the sacramento barrel warehouse to the public, but i think the fulton taproom replaced that idea. archie's, rootstock, bullhead cantina, sportsman's club, and humboldt haus are your area beer options. nothing west of humboldt blvd, though. and no breweries-in-planning that i'm aware of. tell your buddy to can that realtor. might want to visit the neighborhood before he makes the plunge. treat him to a steak jibarito from papa's cache sabroso. buenas noches.

My guess is he meant 47th Avenue West, not 47th Street South as someone mentioned. Augusta and Cicero is ******. I had a band rehearsal space there and was never comfortable walking around the neighborhood. We actually used to draw straws to see who would walk the one block to the liquor store if we ran out of booze during a practice.

So to answer your questions:

1. If he's on the East end, maybe, but it sounds like he's on the West end.
2. No. The West neighborhood is filled with drug dealers and gang activity. My friends and I were pulled over several times by the cops just to ask us what we were doing in that neighborhood.
3. I wouldn't know and wouldn't stop in one on that side of the neighborhood for any reason.
4. If you stacked the neckbeards deep, I might feel safe.

tell him to look on milwalkee just north of fullerton. plenty of empty **** that he could get. plus close to me.

Allow me to answer from the perspective of someone who's lived in Chicago's northwest side his whole life.

1. The EAST side of Humboldt park is getting swallowed up by the Wicker Park neighborhood (which by the way was a TERRIBLE neighborhood in the 90s), so lot's of white people, restaurants, and bars there. The west side of Humboldt park isn't what someone would consider nice right now. There is still a lot of crime; shootings, gang activity, drugs, prostitution, robbery, etc. There is certainly potential for that part of the neighborhood to change, but depending on how far west, it may be unlikely.

2. I've spent plenty of time in all sorts of neighborhoods in the city, so I personally would not be opposed to going to any bar based on it's location.

3. This really depends on exactly where it is. Humboldt Park is a HUGE neighborhood and saying West humboldt Park doesn't really help to narrow it down. It is, however, unlikely that there will be any other good craft beer bars where he is looking.

Someone on the other site was dead certain we'd be seeing more Vanilla Rye soon-ish. As has been mentioned previously, Goose bottled a ton of this beer. Even with their national footprint for BCS these days, it still seemed ludicrous that there was so little 'in the wild', so to speak. Did Binnys/Jewel/Walgreens really get that much? So, maybe, there are some more pallets ready to be shipped out? Can't say I'm much compelled to pay much attention, though!

As for the west humboldt discussion about a beer related facility....tough alderman depending where your at there. Talked to him for sometime, great guy, but doesn't want gentrification like what happened to the east of him (can you blame him). Unless you know someone, getting zoning and a license might be next to impossible over there. But he is super interested in getting a brewery or bar, but he wants it to cater to his neighborhood. good luck man, don't encourage people to line-up for beer though.
