SmallBar on Division is shutting down (via):

There's also a lengthy interview here: http://goodbeerhunting.com/blog/201...king-with-phil-mcfarland-of-smallbar-division
Personally, I won't be that sad to see it go. I think ditching the soccer angle was a mistake (not because I love soccer but because it was an identity and it was a difference). I also think the new chef was a mistake - we have so many ******* fancy bar food/good beer bars already. We didn't need another one (and one that was as pricey as SmallBar became). I went there for a damn crispy buffalo chicken sandwich with tater tots and great beer -- and when two out of the three disappeared, I didn't exactly mind.
Sounds like he just wants to get out of that area considering what it's turning into. I'll definitely be sad to see it go. It was my favorite place on that strip. Sure there's still Bangers and Jerry's but I'll take the Smallbar food over either. I ******* hate Fat Pour and the others along that line that opened there.

Beer temple just got Transient Peur, Red Wine Obelus and Henry in. They had a case of the Obelus with 9 left on the floor when I left about an hour ago.

Got a question though.

Peur had a brewed date of 11/13, a brett beer so I would think he aged it in the bottle before releasing it.

Wayward, Biere du Ruche has a brewed date of 8/14, an Brett IPA and a Honey sassion, no need for aging.

Both the red wine and chardonnay Obelus has a brewed date of 9/13. Makes sense, brewed then sat in their respected
wine barrels for about a year. At 20 bucks a pop that makes perfect sense.

Now the Kicker the recently released Henry has a brewed date of 9/29.

I was under the impression with his whole "I brew beer meant to be aged philosophy" the 13 and 14 are the years not the days of the month.

Not crying foul play or anything. I was just under the impression that he was using One Trick Pony's Brewing System for the past year and only recently started Transient to release beers he had aging and of course to make other awesome beer styles not meant to be aged. I'm I off in thinking that? Can anyone confirm the dates on the bottle are month and year format and Henry's date was just a understandable Typo?

Definitely a typo I'm sure. Perhaps that was the bottle date and he just messed up his own system?

Good comp, though I found it a little less tannic. Surprisingly fruitier and way less malty than the Wild Turkey variant IMO.

Definitely agree on the less tannic aspect. I found my bottle to be pretty similar in malt bill to the Wild Turkey variant, but way less oaky and more fruity like you mentioned.

Anyone have Transient Henry out of the bottle yet? Snagged one at The Beer Cellar yesterday (thanks DaviHaw) and I plan on opening it tonight. Also snagged some more Peur to lay down for a while. I am excite.

Hoping to snag a bottle of Henry tonight as it blew me away on tap. How much was there when you got your Treebs?

Beer Cellar getting Transient is the greatest thing ever. Heading down the street is far preferable to searching around the city :)

If anyone is there today and could get me one, I'll send money/beer/ZJs. I have meetings at work until late and my brother is sick and is having a baby and lost his job and his name is Conquistador.

Hey guys, has anyone here heard about how the workers at Three Floyds are huge jerks? Also, their labels don't stick to the bottles. Does anyone know when Zombie Dust goes on sale at the brew pub this week? I'd like to get a case - if anyone is going, please grab me one. Does anyone know the trade value of a case of ZD? Pretty sure I've got one coming, but I have no intent to drink it because I hate three floyds. Just drank a Zombie Dust from the latest batch, did it seem off to anyone else? Anyone seen Yum Yum on shelves? Yum Yum really sucks IMO, but please let me know if you see it around, I'd love to pick up another six pack. Does Dark Lord remind anyone else of soy sauce? What a **** beer, right? By the way, does anyone have an extra bottle of this year's Dark Lord that they're looking to part with? ISO: 2014 DL FT: $$$$$

Fischmans had Wayward and Henry today.
Beer temple have the Red wine Obelus yesterday night, Pretty sure they had Peur and Henry too but 100% sure on those two.
Henry was solid, for some reason I didn't care much for the Chardonnay Obelus. Sitting on the red wine Obelus, Thinking I should let it sit for a while. The Wild turkey Oud Bruin was my fav so far, Peur a close second.

Even Bill Hader's SNL character Stefon would agree that this post had everything.

Someone explain this to me:

Brewed at GI Clyburn. Aged in old ass Stitzel-Weller barrels for two years. A pretty unique brew that really highlights the bourbon aspect as much as the beer. Maybe more so than any beer i've ever had.

How did the Nomad beers not get more hype? I had Batch 1 a few times at the Spoke and just opened my bottle of Batch 3. I get that there was no name recognition here and that "Imperial Brown" doesn't exactly give beer nerds boners. But this stuff has major points in its favor and should have been a must have for any bourbon nerd.

The original "Twisted Goose" release got delayed for so long that it really fell off everyone's radar once they did release it. I believe they had a serious issue with the bottles carbonating.

The batches aren't so much "unique beers" as more just an indicator of which barrel it is. Couple that with Twisted Spoke/Lush being very insistent that we not label it as brewed at Goose Island for some reason.. so a lot of people actually don't know that detail.

Overall, the cache of an Imperial Brown Ale aged in a bourbon barrel certainly doesn't have the weight of a blended sour or the like.. but I definitely think the branding of "Nomad" as opposed to Goose Island "Twisted Goose" it was originally supposed to be called is a contributor.

Nerd switch turned off.

It wasn't like the actual brewery was a well kept secret. Hell, Montero's review basically did everything but say Goose Island.

I guess I'm just surprised that the branding of all things confused a culture that obsessively hunts anything aged in Pappy barrels and catalogs lambics that have bottle counts in the double digits. I don't think it was the best beer ever, but its origins should have led to more excitement than it did.

This is the first time I even heard about this beer, under either name. Was I living under a rock or did it just go unannounced?

Was/is it available at Lush or was there a release event?

I could have bough a bottle of Batch #1 from Lush about a year ago, but I think the price was the biggest thing that made me pass. $25 for a ba brown ale didn't seem cost effective enough to me.
