The unlabeled one? Don't know because when I got my extra bottles I didn't check them although I guess I should have and didn't check the bottle Chris handed out either. I know the bottles in the tote were labeled however.

Gotcha, so it was with the extra bottles you bought? If so, just go through the list of what you bought on top of the three in the tote and which ever one is left over will be your missing beer.

If anyone was curious here was the Transient taplist as of about 2:30 or 3. When I left at 3 they had yet to tap the last two mystery beers. Anyone stick around until 4? Did they tap them? What were they?

That's the problem I'm not 100% sure what I purchased as extras  I'll figure it out or just have fun opening it and being surprised.

I'm guessing the one is the Obelus Motueka. Can't recall what the other is.

Something I've been wondering since the inception of the Transient reserve society is how subsequent renewals will go and what the cost will be for existing members. Obviously everyone paid the same amount this time around because there was totes, glasses, a t-shirt, etc. that were a part of this go around and it was everyone's first time. I'm hoping there's some sort of tiered pricing, or at least there is value added if Chris intends to keep the cost the same such as a sweatshirt instead of a t-shirt, maybe another style of glass, extra beers, etc.

Interesting point. I do think that the membership will be less than a year. No where was a yearly or an annual membership mentioned. And if we just received all the swag and 4 of the bottles only 2 months into the membership that leaves only 4 bottles left. Which means the next release could be the end of the membership.

Chris was also talking a bit about a beer he's really excited about that he already brewed and its sitting in barrels for the second go-round of membership. He said it was maturing nicely and that it is his favorite beer he's brewed to date but wouldn't give me any details on what type of beer. IMO it sounds like we could see another iteration of membership by spring. Maybe even earlier.

Upon our initial sign up I could have sworn there was a mention that the initial membership was only 6 months, but I could be wrong. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how it is handled going forward.

From Transient's site:

That said, we would like to announce the specifics of our reserve membership. Below is a list of what will be included, the cost of a 6 month membership, and directions for how to get involved in what will ultimately help us expand our barrel program, and push forward towards our goal.

  • Eight 750ml bottles of barrel-aged/sour/funky beers (or equivalent volume)
  • Two logoed glasses
  • A Transient shirt
  • A handmade bottle carrier
  • One 750ml Growler
  • One growler fill
  • Admission to 2 bottle allotment release events (Dates TBD)
  • First right to refuse subsequent memberships
  • First chance to purchase extras of reserve bottles

So when I looked at my bottles I noticed that one of mine is unlabeled. Is that the one Chris was handing out after the initial pick up? If so it's the Red Wine Obelus, right? Does anyone else have an unlabeled bottle?

Same thing happened to me. Figured out it was the Biere la Ruche.

Hmm well just looked at mine again. I hope my unlabeled one is not Bière du Ruche because those are accounted for. What I don't have accounted is a bottle of Red Wine Bêtise.

If anybody got any extra Transient bottles and want to do some sort of IP trade, I can definitely meet up during the FOBAB weekend. Have plenty of stuff from Hill, Cigar City, Michigan Breweries (Meads?), CCB, and others.

After Corbot_3000 is taken care of I would love to get my hands on a bottle. Looking to do an IP in Chicago.

Here's a shot...

Maybe I'm out of touch, but the $15 mark has been a cutoff for me for wilds, BA'd stuff, and maybe a big RIS. I'm having trouble thinking of a non-wild, non-BA'd saison at that cost and am coming up blank, and a gose isn't particularly more expensive to produce than one of those. Hell, even Transient wasn't going over $10 for their non-BA'd stuff.

Looks like 18th Street is releasing new sour beers under a gypsy style brewery a la Grassroots with Hill Farmstead. Called "The Sour Note Brewing", the first release will be a Gose. This Saturday. $15, limit one.

Gypsy... interesting. Disregard previous post about Side Project.

Gary insurance costs added.

And that's precisely why I bought two bottles of the non-BA'd stuff at Transient when I really didn't plan on buying any. Even though saisons and wilds aren't my thing typically, for that price point I was willing to get them a shot. The price point was a pleasant surprise.

Ya that membership is really gonna be worth every penny, I wish I bought as much as possible before leaving

That's my only mistake. I only got two of each of the non-BA beers. Wish I got 6 minimum.

Only nabbed 1 Peur each for Matty and I, really regretting not buying myself another. I did buy 2 of the Ruche though, so I guess that's alright. Didn't buy an extra barrel aged bottle either as I didnt try any of them.

Agree one thousand percent. Only bought 1 Peur and wish I would have bought many more and my 2 extras of the BA stuff. Went with too little cash and wanted to use it for taps but will not be making that mistake next time around. Meanwhile, I am crossing my fingers that Peur shows up for sale again, either at the next party or sometime at One Trick Pony or something!!
