I would suspect that this will rotate with Zombie Dust. There have been so many experimental APA's at the pub over the past year...I've got to believe they've been searching for a ZD sub to account for their citra hop contracts falling short of the demand.

You meant to say Jinx Proof, right?

Right?

Right?

I'll take that! YY was my fav of the experimentals they've been doing, with Space Station a close second...and that's in bombers.

I'm pretty 'meh' on both of them, to be honest.

Furthermore, they're behaving too much like Half Acre for my tastes. "Another over-hopped APA hinged on a proprietary hop strain, you say??" Until a more probable explanation avails itself I'll just blame Dark Matter.

maybe jinx proof was their way of saying "look! we can make more than **** that's super hoppy and dark lord! really we can!" it's not a bad beer but there is zero reason to buy it when great lakes dortmunder exists. i'd venture that yum yum is a jinx proof replacement, or maybe a foray into a new concept of seasonal 6 packs?

I'm guilty of the South Burbs boredom. If I still lived in the city, I'd totally agree with you. I'm excited to see what becomes of Transient and what they can push out. Finally something "different" down there.

Jumping on that low ABV, session pale wagon too?

I'd counter that Jinx Proof is much more likely to be fresh around Chicago than Dortmunder Gold. It's an under-appreciated style, and will therefore get less rotation, but Three Floyds has the benefit of:
  1. being brewed much closer to our market
  2. having enough cache locally that even Jinx Proof gets decent rotation

Surely I'm not the only person that has seen this played out at the local liquor store...

"Do you guys have Zombie Dust? ...No? ...Well, what do you have from them? ...Okay. [leaves with Jinx Proof]"

Maybe if Jinx Proof was good. It's just not and there's no excuse anymore. Some breweries are turning out great lagers, case in point Jack's Abby. I wish FFF would either revamp the recipe or just get rid of it altogether.

I don't think it's fair to compare FFF to a brewery that exclusively does lagers, nonetheless one that doesn't distribute anywhere close to Illinois.

So the obvious comparison here is Metropolitan, which is local, does great lagers, and is possibly more fresh on the shelf than Dortmunder Gold. The GL beers kills when not 5 months old, though...

I wasn't trying to compare FFF to JA. I was simply stating that really well done lagers have come a long way in the US in recent years and that Jinx Proof cannot and should not be highly regarded and thought of as a good lager anymore.

Saw this a little while ago. Anyone know if they're adding it to their reg. lineup?

Looks like it'll be 12oz sixers too? Hope they price it around $10 for the 6pk
I didn't even notice the 12oz/355ml markings. Oh snap!

By that logic, Three Floyds' European-style lager is a bad beer because they aren't hopping the **** out of it with Cascade and Centennial. They market Jinx Proof as an Export Lager, and to their credit it is an exemplary example of one -- balanced, great malt flavor, brewed very clean. I'd go so far as to say that the quality of Jinx Proof is more a testament of FFF's brewing prowess than Zombie Dust.

I think some of you are missing my point. I'm not trying to say in order to be a good lager you need to be hoppy like JA's beers. I never mentioned hops. I'm simply stating that in the last few years a number of US breweries have really stepped up their lager game. Thus there are better options out there than Jinx Proof.

I think we can all agree with Michael Jackson in that Dortmunder Gold is the textbook example of an export lager.

this is true. the fresh factor is huge, albeit not as important as it is for a hop bomb.

You crazy Mike, I think Jinx Proof is delicious. And love me some Calument Queen too

Three Floyd's makes some pretty mediocre regular beers, ZD notwithstanding
This is Jinx Proof for me. It's not a bad export lager or even a bad beer. It's just meh. And with breweries stepping up their game jinx just falls further behind the pack for me.

This is how I feel about Backmasking too. $5 imperials? **** yeah. $10 bombers? **** you!
Guys! It was a typo! Space Station Middle Finger should only be $8 a bottle. All better, right?

Also, I daresay there's a 100%, straight-up useful thread on BA right now about the Shelton Bros. pulling all of their brands out of Illinois. Chris, owner of the Beer Temple, put together a list:

Not that I ever enjoyed paying Shelton Bros. prices for beers, but some of these were worthwhile, every now and then.

Didn't Shelton Pull all their stuff from Chicagoland last fall? I don't think I've seen a new shipment of any of these beers since last summer/fall. This sucks, this list brings so much more gravity to the situation.

Without expanding too much on the topic, I'd like to point out that there is a difference between leaving a market and leaving a distributor...
