Checked out a few new spots on Saturday, and as usual have thoughts about the new places (to me).

Half Acre Balmoral was our first stop for the day, and started off with a sampler (Southern Range was my favorite beer of the afternoon) and our bartender gave us a couple of others samples including their kettle soured cherry red wine barrel aged beer that was surprisingly good.

As a dude who likes looking at breweries and equipment (yea I'm a weirdo) having the bathrooms walk through the production brewery is a nice touch.

I've never seen dixie cups used as airlocks before, but I guess there is a first for everything...

I was also pleasantly surprised by the totally different food concept at Balmoral compared to Lincoln, and couldn't believe how much pate you got for $8. Passed on the bread which I hear is a major failure, but will be corrected in the near future.

Spiteful Brewing is literally next door to Half Acre Balmoral which makes for a easy second stop of the afternoon.

Has a slightly unfinished vibe to the taproom, but really liked the way they displayed all (?) of the labels they've used around the place.

A pretty heavy selection of hop forward beers, but ended up really enjoying Alley Time (Pilsner / Simcoe that I know mjohnson17 would enjoy) with samples of the Pigeon Variants that were on and Belligerent Bob barleywine. Thought the 5oz snifters were some of the best I've ever seen at a brewery as they had a tulip like curve to them. Sure they are a pain in the ass to clean compared to a wide mouth snifter, but was a nice touch.

Pretty minimalist in terms of decor, but enjoyed the overall feel of the place and the pretty distinct change from Half Acre. Definitely room for two places doing different things and looking for different crowds in the area.

Stop 3 was by far my favorite of the afternoon, and I wish I would've listened to folks like jeblikesbeer when he started raving about the place.

Like everyone has said, getting into Metropolitan is kind of funky at the moment as you are walking along the border of an active construction site, but once you are inside it is totally worth it. Just a beautiful taproom with a great view of the river and a huge central bar flanked by communal tables.

The Haus Helles and Zwickel were fantastic, and while the Coffee Doppelbock wasn't my thing, was fun to see them experimenting a bit more than I remember.

Free arcade and pinball machines had folks lined up waiting to play.

Without a doubt the best view of any Chicago taproom that I can think of, and I can't wait to visit in the summer when the outdoors will be fully open.

Again would love to see Metropolitan have a few more unique things on at the taproom, but would certainly be happy drinking Zwickel year round and hanging out.

Fellas, any idea if cans of Ryeway to Heaven are still floating around? Was thinking to put up an ISO.

Had a few and was a fan.

I'm down to 1 can myself, earmarked for my SFHangover/Catalina BIF target, and I don't know how many of the other Chicago guys here trade or visit the ISO FT forums....but other places (with more Chitlords) I wonder if you could find some.

****, now I have to debate with myself on driving down to pick up more Cafe Deth. Thanks a lot.

Is there a beer that is too good to trade? Everybody has a price.

Of course not, I was more thinking:

1) BA, but maybe FB is better (I'm not on FB, so don't know) to reach a wider pool of Chicago folks who hoard/trade - hence, "other places"
2) I personally didn't know anyone who loaded up on that particular offering, such that they would have the 1-2 extra 4-packs around that he's likely looking for
3) most of all, it was just horribly worded by me, in a rush

Nah, you were clear. It was just an attempt at a discussion starter on my part.

These Beer Temple Royal Rumble Vignettes ★★★★

beeraficionado if you don't make your avatar out of The Hitman, I'm going to.
The Dikembe finger wag is much more important though, like for when you all ask for wide distribution of an Imperial of a Red Ale in 3 different can sizes.
