100 Tap Shorts Takeover on FoBAB Saturday, eh?

FOBAB is the consolation prize.
Be a real trooper. Fit this and one up that one guy who is going to all three sessions.

"Saturday, November 11th, 11am

Short's Brewing Company & Starcut Ciders are taking over our taps and we couldn't be more excited. There will be 100 taps dedicated to Short's beers and ciders. Join us for what may be the largest single-brewery tap takeover in Illinois!

We'll have beer. We'll have cider. We'll have swag. We'll even have Joe Short! Joe will be stopping by for a special toast at 5pm. This is one party you won't want to miss.

The taplist is coming...we're getting it locked up with everyone's favorites as well as some hard-to-find brews. Stay tuned."

The HopCat in Chicago is like, a 10 minute walk from my place, it's pretty nice. Definitely caters to the Lincoln Park / Lakeview sports crowd on the weekends when a game is on but is pretty chill and relaxed 90ish% of the time, taps seem fresh, lines seem clean. I think given the choice, I'd go to Local Option, but I still pop in at HopCat from time to time.

Clark and Wrightwood in Lincoln Park

Haven't been so can't speak on or against it's behalf.
It's solid. The tap list hasn't disappointed yet, the food's good, and the "crack fries" are excellent. My kids love the mac & cheese on the kids menu, and the fact that they can get it with bacon.

They had a special a while back that was basically a burger with a reuben on it. It was glorious.

I LITERALLY found this out last night while I was at a Hop Cat in Louisville. I had no idea they were outside of Michigan!

The one in Louisville usually has a couple really solid hard to find drafts. I think it’s a bigger deal there because of the lack of 100’s of awesome options like we have here so they and Grale get the pick of the litter depending on distributor.

Was this posted? I can't stress enough how much I love the move to 4-pack cans for BA beers.

Also, the FAQ is golden:
WHY DID REVOLUTION DECIDE TO MAKE THE SWITCH FROM 22OZ. BOTTLES TO CANS? said:
We are making this change to give consumers better value per ounce, compared to the 22oz. bottle, and to bring down the container size to accommodate individual enjoyment. .... [T]he new format and price allows us to provide up to 4 consumption occasions per package, instead of 1.

WILL CANS AFFECT HOW THE FLAVORS EVOLVE OVER TIME? said:
We have tasted many beers aged over a year in cans and have not tasted any major flavor changes other than the beer aging normally. Again, we do not recommend long-aging of these beers as they have already been aged 6-24 months in the barrel and are ready to drink now.

Whoever wrote that is a genius ;)

- No mention of BPA poisoning your customers as the motivation to can the beers = FAKE NEWS
- Failure to mention the OBVIOUS infection of Cafe Deth in advance = FAIL

Speaking of which, is Cafe Deth going to be just as awesome as last year or did all the whining last year force you guys to go for a more "traditional" coffee stout profile?

It's going to be 2 lbs per barrel (same as last year) of a blend of Dark Matter & Gas Light coffee. To put that into perspective, Coffee Eugene is 1 lb per barrel and that is pretty coffee forward. Last year it was 100% Dark Matter, so slightly different but not because of anything related to last year. Another thing to note, Deth's Tar was brewed to a higher starting gravity this year, which got it to 14.8% ABV (typically in the 13s), which should give it a little more body than in the past.

What else ya got for me?

Exact origin to-the-acre of each coffee. Favorite Backstreet Boy of the head farmer if you got it.

When are you releasing Red Skull in cans?!

Swung by Clybourn yesterday. It’s beautiful. It really is. Yes it’s a little more sleek and modern than it was. Ok a lot more. But it still feels like Clybourn. The brewhouse sorely needed an update, and I’m happy to report it is awesome and the amount of tank space is doubled. Casks will be happening, Siebel room still there, back bar is wooden and harkens back to OG and also the reserve room at the Barrel Warehouse. Kitchen got a gorgeous remodel too, with an open pass and clear sight lines.

And the original bar is in the Barrel Warehouse storage in pieces, but is not being thrown out.
